  • I know a lot of rescues/animal workers that use a light water spray on animals to discourage them from bad habits :-/ ...I thoug hit was accepted practise?

I wouldnt be concerned about them "selling" the animals on either...they have to recoup some of the costs of rescuing them or they wouldnt be able to keep going. I usually have to pay £30-50 to adopt rabbits.

As for selling ex breeding !!!!!es and stud dogs at £140.00 min. Why don't they lobby against this vile practise instead?

Are you part of them by any chance?

I'm quite happy to give you the benefit of the doubt, that you were doing your best to raise something you were concerned about, and I applaud your good intentions for that, but the comment above is just downright offensive.

£140 doesn't come close to covering the costs of neutering and rehoming a dog, especially not one that needs extensive rehabilitation and often medical care, as ex puppy farm dogs often do.

MT are very much against puppy farming, but just lobbying against it doesn't help the dogs that are suffering and dying in them right now. The fall out from the puppy farm trade is so vicious and unpleasant that even most of the rescues won't deal with them, and I can't blame them for that. They are only human and can only stomach seeing so much suffering.

What exactly are you doing to help stop puppy farming? Not a fraction of what MT are doing I should imagine. Or perhaps you are just an armchair activist, quick to criticise, but not so keen on actually getting your hands dirty. Would you prefer the alternative, i.e. that they get shot, drowned or just dumped when they are too old or ill to breed anymore? That pups not 'perfect' enough to sell for full price face the same fate?

Perhaps you could take the time to actually go to MT and see for yourself what they are dealing with. Animals with fur so matted you literally cannot tell which end is which, b!tches who have to be bandaged up because their teats drag on the floor because they've been bred so frequently, animals that have never known a kind hand, a house or human contact.

And before you start, no I am not part of MT, but I appreciate the work they do, especially when so very few places are willing to do it. They are the only chance those dogs have, and I am grateful they are there to offer it.
When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.
  • £140 is a normal price considerin neuteringt fees etc and you really can't compare that to the cost of adopting a rabbit!
  • i wasnt comparing it as such, i was saying that as it's often 30-50 for a rabbit, it's fully resonable to pay more to adopt a dog, which cost much more for the rescue to look after.

  • I have been to MT several times to see the dogs and play with and walk them. ( I go in my annual holiday for an hour or two as I live in Somerset). MT are really open and are happy to show you their kennels and for you to meet the dogs. I also watch their website on a daily basis and they seem to me to be doing an absolutely fabulous job of not only rehoming puppies BUT older dogs too, which of course is much harder. All this on a very small budget. The dogs are neutered, have access to MT's own vet and on may occasions are given expensive drugs and rehabilitation treatment when other rescues would have 'euthanised' because of the ongoing expense. If you feel that the vetting process for owners is not up to scratch perhaps you should volunteer your service so that you assure yourself that all is fine.
I may not have thanked you but I meant to, honest!

Best to climb down from that high horse Suki.

I was concerned about a rescue site but, was reasurred by those more experienced than me here, that it is legit.

Before MSE, I knew hardly anything about rescue, but thanks to most here, I am learning.
During posting on the 3rd of this month, I came across a little orange and white Cocker Spaniel named Bud. Fostered by Many Tears. Here is an exerpt from my post.
"Hah! I was just looking on a rescue site and there in breed and colour was a dog like mine. Age nine and very nervous it said. I was interested in this little fellow, till I read on to see that he bites anyone and everyone it would seem. Oh and the fosterer of this dog says it sits happily with her two year old grandson:eek: It is deaf as mine is, but cries for company, the fosterer dealt with this by first crating and when that did'nt work squirting with water.
Put that one to sleep too along with the fosterer.http://www.dogpages.org.uk/forums/in...howtopic=46987 his name is Bud."

Good idea would you think, to squirt a dog with water, crate it when distressed?
No of course you wouldn't. Nor me. I was tentativly offering the discussion up this evening to OH of little Bud.

I can't trace the dog Bud now. Best gone over Rainbow Bridge than to be shot at with water.
So when I came across Many Tears again, I raised my concern. Better that than turning a blind eye. See I'm learning!
Many Tears may be reputable but their fosterer's leave a lot to be desired, ultimately the responsibiliy of Many Tears. Yes?

    Many tears for Bud anyway.

I really dont like your tone, I find it threatening and offensive

I wasnt on any high horse, just your post made absolutely no sense to me whatsoever

You started of going on about a deaf old cocker of which I couldn't find reference to - nor did you supply a link to your previous post so I could even hazard a guess at what you were talking about, then seemed to imply there was some sort of conspiracy with links not working and Burns pet food.

Now that may not have been your intention but believe me thats how I read your post

I was not on any "high horse"

If any one was I suggest perhaps you need to be looking in the mirror

And no Im not part of anyone (whatever that is supposed to mean)

And I still cant find reference to this water squirting incident, and if you honestly believe that a dog being put down is better off then being squirted by water (which is a recognised training method in the right hands) I suggest that perhaps the world of rescue isnt quite ready for you yet
