original price covered up

Hi
I recently purchased an item to be given as a gift.
I removed the price sticker, and found another price underneath, which was £4 cheaper than the price on the sticker that I paid.
Is there any thing I can do about this, as the original sticker will not come off without ripping the packaging.

Scribble over the price with a biro?Stompa0

I have the receipt, but do I have legal grounds for returning the item to the shop?
scribbling over with a biro will not cover the price, it would still show through.
Are they allowed to put a more expensive sticker over a cheaper one? I know they can do this the other way round, a cheaper price over the top of a dearer price.0 -

Is it a big company by the way? I think the bigger the company the more likely it is that they will refund the difference for you.

If you found the price underneath was £4 dearer, would you go back to the store and pay them the extra £4? I think not!
Promotions come and go all the time, it's just unfortunate that you bought it after the sale was on.0 -
Thank you for your informative reply Morty_007, yes, it is a high street chain.

Colliefrog, I think you misunderstood my original post.0 -
I'd just like to add some more factual advice to the thread.
If the price is changed downwards, then the retailer can overstick the price, "red pen" or do whatever they want to mark the change of price.
If however a retailer wishes to increase the price of a product, they must rekimball the product, otherwise obviously a consumer can remove a sticker and claim the item should be sold at a lower price - obviously the consumer can then report the retailer to trading standards under such circumstances. What you sometime see is that on kimballs for products, it has a perforated strip whereby the price can be torn off - the store can then use a pricing gun to put a new price on without any trace of the old price.
If the retailer has failed to remove a sticker from a promotion, such as a 25% day and it's a one off item, then it would be churlish to report them to TS, but if they are repeat offenders in doing so, then it would be fair grounds.
In terms of getting a refund, take the item back if you are not happy with the price and report them to TS. Otherwise wait for the sales in Jan. The retailer is under no obligation sadly to sell at a specified price as it is an invitation to treat until the sale is made. You could always speak to the store manager?0 -

What reason can you as for refund, the item is not fault and so the retailer is under no obligation to refund. The price was correct at time of sale so to try and claim the lower price could be fraud.
Whos to say that the wrong price ticket wasnt put on there in the first place and this was then changed to the correct price but removing the original price ticket would damage the product.
Good factual advice kiddy guy.
OP i dont really see what your issue is unless job blogs down the street is selling the same item for 4 quid cheaper"Save the cheerleader - Save the world"0 -
No, you're absolutely right, the retailer has no reason to refund, but you'll tend to find that most reputable retailers would. It has been known that some customers will deliberately damage an item to make it faulty for a return - and as a retailer I'd rather have a return in A1 condition than a damaged one.
Nobody is to say that the sticker would damage the product, but then again, surely by taking it off would make it difficult to give as a present if the price would not come off - does the OP want their recipient to know how much they spent? This would not however detract from the fact that the retailer should have removed the price.
I appreciate that you do not agree with my thoughts. I have however worked in reverse logistics and QC for a number of high street retailers for over 10 years in a senior capacity, so given that this is one of my specialities I know what I am talking about.0 -
I really do not se what the problem is.
The buyer saw the product, the price that the store wanted and purchased it. I do not see why TS would be interested in this unless the customer was charged more than the price he thought it was to be purchased at.
The customer here has not been wronged.0
