Item sent to wrong address???

Hi, I'm looking for some advice. I sold an item about a month ago to USA. Emailed buyer last week to check item had arrived safely to which she replied 'no not yet will let you know when it does'. Fast forward to this week received an email saying 'oh no you sent the item to my old address, I thought I had changed this on ebay and paypal but obviously not. My new address is.....'. I have asked her to check at her old address to check if it has been delivered there but haven't heard back yet.
If it doesn't turn up will I still be able to claim through Royal Mail? She hasn't asked for a refund yet but obviously if it doesn't arrive she will do. I have emailed Ebay but as yet no reply:rolleyes: .
Thanks for any advice.

Was the delivery trackable? If not Paypal may just refund her and you will have no choice. Personally I would not refund until you have got a refund from RM. It is not your fault she didn't update her details. I think it is really up to her to chase. I am sure a lot of people will disagree with this because it is the seller responsibilty to get a item there but you were at a disadvantage from the start.
Do you have you name and address on the package? Perhaps it is on the way back.0 -
Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately the parcel wasn't sent a trackable route - stupid me! I have posted lots abroad and thankfully this is the first problem I have had. I did put my address on the back (have told her this) so hopefully it will turn up one day.
It's not that I have a problem refunding her I just wonder if Royal Mail will refund me due to her not being at the address given?PIPSQUEAK44:)0 -
why should she be refunded if she gave wrong address0

If the buyer was feeling malicious then she could claim for non-delivery on PayPal, and as the seller has no tracking number it is very likely that PayPal would find in the buyers favour.
How much was the item worth? I'd claim from Royal Mail anyway, even without proof of postage they will often pay out the compensation. We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0 -

So far the buyer is being pleasant although I know that could change. They have 0 feedback so have nothing to go on.
I do have !!!!!! of postage (well airmail receipt) but didn't send it Airsure. The item was only worth about £20 so including postage about £34.PIPSQUEAK44:)0 -

Claim from Royal Mail anyway then, compensation should be around £36 or something (10x 1st class I think), it helps that you still have the till receipt, so a claim shouldn't be too much of a hassle...but don't actually refund the buyer until they ask for it, you could end up quids in if they finally get the item (as unlikely as that seems right now).We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0 -
Thanks for your help - I'll look into claiming and see what happens.PIPSQUEAK44:)0

The RM have done what they were contracted to do and despatched it to the address on the package.0 -
