Halifax - EasyCash to Student Account in Branch - Even though Bad/No Credit!!

When I first became a student I applied to upgrade my account with Halifax, from a 'EasyCash Account' to the 'Student Account', this came back declined. I dont have the best credit history even though I am only 19, I had mobile phone contract I defaulted on quite a bit, but I am starting to pay this off now.
Anyway I work part-time, which give me a regular income each month, as well as having my Student Loans/Grants go in every 4 months (which is about £2000), the next due in on the 5th January 2009, so not too long. I also am getting bursaries. At the moment with christmas coming I dont have a lot of money though, as my first loan was spent on a lot of uni equipment.
So I rung my LOCAL branch up and explained my situation, and that I had been declined before, and the woman pulled up my account details, asked me about what money I have going into the account.
I explained that any sort of overdraft over christmas would be great, not massive, just enough for an emergency, this would get paid off on the 5th Jan when my student loan goes in, and I would still have lots left. To my surprise the woman said becuase I had been with them over 6 months, they would look at my personal circumstances and what my cashflow was like with the bank. I now have a meeting in branch on Monday morning, which I need to take my student confirmation letters, loans, bursaries etc too, as well as any other proof of income I get and they said they would sort me out.
I am quite shocked at this becuase I got declined before, I have now been with them 10 months, and they can probably see that I have regular income. I aint getting my hopes up too much but this looks quite promising. Is this sort of thing common? I have heard about this happening.

Hi, the student account will still be credit checked but sometimes they can be reffered to the head office when they credit check is performed (not offered straight away) where they will check how you control your easy cash account! Just make sure you take in your student confirmation and I'm sure they will be happy to help!0

Sadly I think they'll likely decline you.0

That was too the point lol.
What makes you think that?0 -
I did actually tell the woman that I had already been declined, but she still told me to come in etc, surely, she wouldnt say this if there was no hope?0

Just go in and see what happens, if you get declined you get declined - but you don't get anything unless you ask!
When were you declined? September/October just gone?Cashback Earnt so far in 2009: AMEX £133.93, wepromiseto.co.uk £67.07, Barclaycard £25, MobilePhoneExchange: £28. TOTAL: £254.000 -
What EXACTLY is on your CRA files?0
-
Yeah that is true.
Well I'll just go in then and see what happens.
Yes it was in August/September I think.
Its just so annoying because they can see that the money will be paid back anyway, seen as on 5th January I get £2000 of student grants go in there. Its not as though Im going go crazy with it either, its just there for an emergency like. I suppose I'll just have to explain this to the person.
I am going to say though, that I did already in Septmeber and got declined, before the woman even tries.0 -
