Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Saturday 13th December. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all!:D
In some pain today, so even though my OH tried to be quiet when he came in, he woke me from my very light sleep. Thought I would get up and see if Tristan logs on though I think he may be taking a break.
I am missing my nephews so much. It's my birthday on Monday and this will be the first year I don't get to see them. And then it's Christmas. *sighs*
My lodger has been here a month now and has paid her next rent which was great! I am gradually getting used to having her around though she does like to talk through my fave TV programmes cos she doesn't watch TV except the news and current affair programmes, and I am much more pedestrian in my viewing!:rotfl: My OH is finding it harder to adjust I think.
Sunnyday and kaat - not heard from Tristan but hoping he has just gone away for a few days. He often does when he has been in hospital.
Reverbe - big hug for you hon, it sounds like you might need it
sistercas - John Barrowman is probably the second sexiest man in the world. I adore him! (Had to have a cold drink after Reverbes comments about him in tights...)
taplady - So glad you passed your exam, but so sorry to hear about Lesley. My heart goes out to you and her family, bit I know she was there helping you through your exam.
hugs to Turfy - what sad news.
kaat - hope you like your new breadmaker when you get it. We got ours from Freecycle and its an Hinari. Bit of a big monster but it makes great bread and the spike up the middle isn't too long so you don't have those annoying 'non' slices..
Decorations not up yet. Maybe Sunday. Have made a few more cards but need to hurry that up so we can get them posted. My book order from Tescos arrived (my fathers is already at his place but he promised not to open it til christmas). He sent me a birthday card but said he couldn't sign a cheque cos he had sprained his wrist. Funny how the cards were signed by him though. *chuckles*
Have run out of washing powder, but the Tescos order arrives on Weds so will use shampoo and hand wash the urgent things and the rest can wait til the order arrives. We had a code for half price delivery so we picked the 17th and have cancelled the order for the 19th which was £6 delivery. My OH said he is fine with just picking up the fresh veg nearer christmas - everything else will be in the cupboards or freezer once the order arrives. Golly I am even boring myself now... sorry everyone!!!
Anyway,
to everyone who needs them today, and
to everyone who is under the weather.

Morning.
All quiet here after a rain storm passed through overnight soaking everything again. The garden is already a swamp, so perhaps it's a lake now. Day off and not back until 3pm on Wednesday, so now it the time for me to get everything sorted for Christmas. I think it's too late to rely on postal stuff as Play.com took 10 days to get a CD to me, so not to be trusted.
Tried the new coffee shop in the town, they sell over 50 different coffees, so gave Ethiopian a try and that is very nice, although at £1.60 per 100g, you don't get more than a few jug fulls. I can't see how he can make any money, but I guess he will give it a try.
Shopping today I expect and then a lazy night in eating leftovers from the 2 lots of entertaining we did on Thur and Fri. Fire and Christmas movies I think. Looking at the Christmas radio times, there are loads of Christmas movies on this year, so get the DVD burner ready.
Went in to Woolies yesterday, sad is'nt it? All shelves pretty much empty, still a few things at 30% off, but it look like the end of the store now..
Have a nice day and enjoy your shopping...NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning all.
I need to be quick on here this morning as thwin are still asleep but will be wakeing soon for there feed.
Well i dont know about were you are but here in the midlands its raining very hard but at lest the wind has died down now. And its not as cold as i was beliveing it would be.
We should be getting our new under couter frezzer today. we are getting one because of the amout of fezzeing we now do, we never seem to have enough room in ours so when wego out and see bargins we can only get a small amout. also we now make a lot of home made soup and freez it to use in the week for lunch. So as soon as we get it im sure it wont take long to fill it up and we will still be moaning that we dont have any room:D
Well this time next week i would have broken up from work for 3 weeks:j
And i can tell you i can nt wait. Im very fed up there at the moment so having three weeks off will do me the world of good and it means that i will get to speed some time at home with the twins:j :j so it all good.
We are going to put out christmas tree up today or tomorrow The twins will love the lights:T
Well im off to et another coffee before the twins wake up.
so i hope that evryone has a good day. ill pop by later.
Enjoy yourselfs:jYou can have everything you wont in lfe, If you only help enough other people to get what they wont.:j0 -
Good morning all.
Smoky - I understand about the holiday and it does make sense. The next few weeks are going to be hard for all of you but you have come so far in a really short time. I think the way you are coping is inspirational and I hope you have a peaceful and relaxing Christmas. The vomiting bug sounds awful so I hope the LOs are getting better. As for getting the smell of vomit out, I swear by neat alcohol - I always use vodka because it is clear and has no smell. The alcohol eats the enzymes and that gets rid of the smell. It works on spilt milk, the results of pet accidents and so on, so it's worth keeping a cheap bottle in just for things like that. (((Hugs))) to you all.
Taplady - Lesley and her family have been in my thoughts; it will be a sad time for them and you, but comforting to know that she is at peace after her struggle.
Well, we've had no more news about LO to date; she is slowly but surely improving and they hope to have her home by Christmas.
Today we are putting our trees and decorations up; each year I expect it to take a couple of hours and each year it takes a whole day! The tree ends up being the easy bit; it's the fireplaces and banisters that take up most of the time because I can't stop adding things. The room with the main tree looks out onto the back garden so it can't be seen from the road. The dining room looks out onto the front so I decorate for that window, too, otherwise it would look as if we weren't having a Christmas. I love to see Christmas lights in people's windows - it's part of the excitement.
Dinner tonight will be a quick carbonara so that I can settle down to watch the semi-final of Strictly.
I should be baking today but the Christmas decorations will put paid to that, so I'll make some cakes tomorrow.
I did my food shopping yesterday and spent less than I was expecting which was a bonus, and I also posted all my parcels and cards off for Europe. I just have a few more cards to write and some wrapping up to do, so I'll try and get that done on Monday. I really wish that we could stop cooking and cleaning for a couple of weeks and just concentrate on Christmas!
Anyway, I've mioliered for long enough.
Hope everyone has a good day.

Morning All
MSD - hope you feel better soon.
(((hugs))) wherever needed.
For the first time ever I woke to the smell of baking bread as I used the timer. Thought I had set it for finish at 8 though so will have to be careful when I do it again.
Had a bit of a better day yesterday, all ironing done and Xmas tree and decs up. DD did most of the tree and she did a good job.
Today will be spent doing washing, swishing the bathrooms and possibly some paperwork.
DS has a party this afternoon and then later we are all round my sis' as its my nephews birthday tea so no cooking for me tonight :j
OS - hmmn will be using vinegar & stardrops to clean the bathrooms and may do some cooking with my DD if she fancies that.
Tonight along with N9eav will be lighting the fire & veging out in front of the TV obviously not actually with N9eav :rotfl:
Anyway going to make another cup of tea and have a surf.

I have to really get a gallop on this morning .have to be in Rochester by 9.30.a.m. for the last lecture of the year on 'Victorian London' that finishes at 12.00 then I have to hurry back home as my sis-in-law from Faversham is arriving around 12.15 at my house 6 miles away.then at 1.00. my DD is turning up for lunch as she is at work at her estate agents at the top of my road so she will want feeding PDQ as she only has about half and hour .When my sis-in-law goes at 3.00 I have to whizz up to my other DDs with a pile of stuff that she asked me to pick up for her from my local shops (that I will do after 3.00)With luck I should be able to sit and write up my lecture notes sometime around 5 whilst they are still in my mind .Dinner will be bangers and mash and then I shall put my feet up hopefully by 7.00.p.m. Whew its all go being retired,I havn't got time to go to work.
Yesterday my beautiful DGS Mikey did his first Nativity at school ,he was a sheppard and there wasn't a dry eye in the place. Mums and Grannies were all sniffling at the dear little ones solemn faces. I have seen all 7 now of my grandchildren in Nativity Plays and Mikey was the last ,bless him .
Tess (DD) took her three youngest boys to see Father Christmas at Notcutts at Maidstone last Sunday and they loved it .She said he was very good with the boys and told the middle scamp Henry that he really must go to sleep early this year as he had to circle the roof of his house last year 'cos he was trying to peep. Henry's eyes were like saucers, and really took it all in bless him. They had their photo taken but sadly children aren't allowed to sit on Santa's knee anymore ,which was a shame as Mikey, who is four so wanted to stoke his lovely long white beard. Isn't it sad that even children's innocence is being taken away like this. Well time to get my skates on have a great day everyone and <<hugs >> to those in need
Cheers JackieO xx0 -

Good morning everyone,
Weather here is terrible - DS is meant to be playing football, but im hoping that it will be cancelled - i really could do with not standing in a cold, wet, muddy field today!!!
Also, im out most of the day tomorrow (going out with my friend for some shopping and a meal, as my 2 are out with their dad, its his 'Christmas' with them) so all the things i normally do on a Sunday, i would like to do today as i think a few drinks might be consumed tomorrow, and dont think i will fancy doing anything when i get back home!!!
Nothing much has really been happening here - im all ready for Christmas, i love it and we are all getting really excited now, and even tho my 2 now 'know' about Christmas (if you know what i mean!!) we still pretend and i still do all the same things i used to.
Anyway, better get a wriggle on, just in case footy isnt cancelled (but looking out the window, i do think it would be mean to make the boys play in this!!!) ((HUGS)) to all who want/need one, and i hope everyone has a lovely day.
Take care xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx0 -
Morning all
Hugs & congratulations to Taplady.
I hope you feel better soon Diva.
Sorry your kids all have the lurgy Smokey, but your last post yesterday did make me chuckle, saying at least DD had missed the bed & carpet etc.
Hugs to PP, Jay & Mrs Mix.
No plans to go out today, it's going to rain all day, so I shall do housework & finish decorating the tree, might also fit in some more knitting & crochet, I'm addicted to the pom pom wool I found.
Have a good day everyone
Hugs Hester

The holly and the ivy
When they are both full grown
Of all the trees that are in the wood
The holly bears the crown
O the rising of the sun
And the running of the deer
The playing of the merry organ
Sweet singing of the choir
In my calendar – a cracker :santa2:
TapladyI’m so sorry about Lesley
Congratulations on passing your exam :T
We bought the majority of the presents yesterday. When we got home, my mum rang and asked if I fancied going to town on tuesday – as it will involve a pub lunch and few drinks, followed by watching ice-skaters fall over, I said yesI can get the last few little gifts at the same time.
I usually put the decs up when everyone’s out so it’s all cosy and Christmassy when they come home, but master tru has just asked me to wait til 5pm cos he wants to do it too :j I’m quite chuffed about that - being 17 and 18, the kids have spent the last couple of years as far away from the house as possible, their mates are far more important than us
I’ve got some ironing to do, and bread to slice and freeze. Me and the kids prefer it, if I could persuade mr tru’s taste buds then I can stop buying plastic bread altogether
