You could try registering the phone with immobilise.com then immediately registering it as stolen. It wouldn't help in tracking down your phone but it would ensure that you get it back if it were to be recovered at some stage:

Your contract is with 3 via 3g i take it then they should be able to put a stop on the number regardless of which phone the sim is in, i would call them again, if someone is using your sim and running up huge bills then chances are you will be liable for them even if they say they cant just keep going on at them.Have you tried calling 3 direct to cancel the sim? It is them that will be able to cancel it.

Forget about your phone, you'll never see it again.

Here's an offer from e2save.com. New Motorola CL75, free line rental for 12 months, via cashback, and 1000 off-peak minutes too. Here's a link:

do you have contents insurance, sometimes mobile phone theft is covered in the policy. Report it to the police and then get on to insurance

I would be hesitant to claim on your household policy as there will no doubt be an excess on it, and even worse, your premium in the following year will suffer a worse hike than usual. Unless, of course the handset was a really valuable one.

havent you got the box the phone came in?
also 3 should have records of the imei of the phones that your sim card has been in (and so they would know your imei), although they may not give you this info

I thought you said you had the imei number?
Anyway, as drahcir says, 3 will be able to tell the imei number of the handset which was used with your simcard up to the point it was stolen - all the networks use a central database to log imei's of stolen phones and there is no reason for 3 to refuse to assist you in blocking your handset regardless of whether you actually bought it off them.

You definitely need to get back in touch with 3, and don't let them fob you off !!!

When my daughters 02 phone was lost it wasnt the original sim in it it was an online 02 sim and i didnt have the imei number and they were able to block the sim and the phone from the phone number i gave them, i just had to confirm a few recent numbers dialed/recieved. Maybe - are you using a non 3g phone with your 3 contract? maybe thats why 3 are reluctent to help you but they should.
