Doctors: Diagnosis of Depression

Don't know if anyone has heard of 5HTP.I bought some of this when I ran out of melatonin for my son and the shop assistant said it was the same thing..NOT! When I read up on it it can help with depression etc though. Not sure if this is of any help to any of you out there who would rather have a natural medicine? Its available from health food type places0

Hi D&DD, just had a look online for 5HTP as i wouldnt have minded giving them a go. Only problem i could find with them was they aid in weight loss. I dont have much of a appentite most of the time so I cant really risk losing any more weight.
I have to take DS to the baby clinic tomorrow, got to go alone too so im not looking forward to it but luckily its only a 10 minute walk away and I cant not go as its a doctors visit as DS as development problems and suspected partial deafness. there is a health shop just across road though so I will pop in there and see if they can give me any advice of what to try.

Hi Purple have you had any help from the HV regarding the depression? There are some good ones out there..somewhere! I had a really low point a couple of years back already had one son who we knew had probs but got hit with a bolt from the blue on the second one. They sent a Health visitor round, first one I'd seen for 3 years mind you BUT she was a godsend.Took me months to get back on my feet and get my head sorted but they sometimes provide a very good listening ear.I wish you all the best in sorting it out,it can be so hard as mum is the one always expected to keep it together!I have a small circle of close friends who can spot if I'm going downhill again and are invaluable to me.With 2 kids with very differing disabilities I don't get out much but have found ways to cope as I am sure you will as you sound like a strong person. You may not feel like it at the moment but you will get better wishing you all the best XX0

Hi. yes she came out monday afternoon after I called her. shes got baby clinic today at my doctors so shes going to ask him about getting a Community psychiatric nurse to pay me a home visit. Shes going to phone me later today to tell me if hes going to allow it or if he wants me to call into the surgery to see him.
Thanks Ted for the links also. specially the food ones. I know I need to start eating proper. Its been a case of quick microwave meals lately. Ive noticed alot of its green leafy food which happily i do like. I will avoid buying ready meals for myself when i do my online asda shop next and put on the food the web sites suggests.

I just want a bit of advice really on what I am supposed to tell her? I tend to get a bit stuck for words when I'm feeling like this, would anybody recommened taking a list f all the things I want covered in with me?
Thanks in advance
Firstly, I'd wonder who was being employed by doctors nowadays. A good receptionist would have had you in there to see a doctor.
But I'm as bad. I'm at loggerheads with my own doctor - and scared that I'll be chucked off a panel of doctors, the majority of which I'd neither want or choose to see. I go into a panic mode when they suggest things that I'm not prepared to co-operate with....
Can you change doctors at all? I've changed doctors in the past, via family members, to one that understands my needs ... which are all dependent on prescriped drugs ... so I feel like I'm stuck in between a rock and a hard place.
If not, I'd do as some have suggested and take in a list. And your partner. Lots of things are forgotten in doctor's surgeries, so it's always best to have some sort of helper with you....imho.
Just about to read your other posts on this topic, so I hope you've been given some good advice and understanding, and realise that you're not alone
Best wishes x0 -
