Doctors: Diagnosis of Depression

Well, some people do, and some don't. My parents don't, my inlaws do. But at home the first thing I do is take my shoes off and put my slippers on and DH stays in his shoes until bedtime!abbieken888 wrote:Deffo agree, I ALWAYS take my shoes off. Would expect people to do the same in my house. Its just one of those things isn't it?
However, never mind what does and doesn't happen in my home. When I go elsewhere, if I feel 'at home' I take my shoes off. If I don't feel 'at home' I might ask if the person would like me to. And if ANYONE ever asked me to remove my shoes (as one set of friends does automatically with anyone who comes to the house!) then of course I would take them off.
To me it's basic courtesy that if someone asks me to take my shoes off, I do so. But maybe some people feel 'naked' without shoes on? Maybe the CPN had some OCD fixation about taking her shoes off? But I agree it wasn't helpful!
Abbie, hope the tablets are starting to kick in. You do have to give it a little while: some I took made me feel like superwoman for the first couple of weeks! Would take them all the time if the effect didn't wear off ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
patchwork_cat wrote:Freebie Junkie - well done for managing it yourself - I couldn't. You know what was strange was I never met anyone who had an OCD so directly related to pregnancy as me and the moment the babies were born I was fine.
Having read the phobic soceity's page on OCD too I realise that I had elements of it even as a child to a very small degree - so did my brother.
I say that I am fine but when I am tired some elements do occasionally come out, but I ,like you, talk sternly to myself and won't let them out of their box!
yeah when i look back i realise some things too, like i always had to do all my homework at either school or on th ebus on the way home when i was in high school coz i reckoned that if i actually did any at home id failed som how!
just keep telling it that your in charge!!!

Thanks for everyones kind words

Starting to feel a bit better, but its still quite hard, just hope medication starts to help soon.
Had no internet for a few days, didn't realise how much I relied on it!0 -
Really pleased to hear you're improving. Surfing the net can be a good way of distracting oneself during a bout of depression, especially if the alternative is surfing the duvet. Good luck, things are starting to get better

Whats a cpn?
Ive had depression. agrophobia and panic attacks for around 10 years. I stopped going to the doctors 8 years ago when he sent me see a specialist 10 miles away and there was no way i could travel that far. Do they have people who come out to see you at home now? I really need to get this sorted as its ruining my life, what life I have anyway. 0 -
Purple Smartie,
Community psychiatric nurse and yes, if you contact your doctor's surgery and explain your condition I would think they could arrange a home visit. Hope this helps0 -

Mine was nice, but then she got pregnant and said I was so much better she wasn't going to refer me on to her replacement.freebie_junkie wrote:i had a bad one, but im very sure that there are good ones that could help you, good luck!
purple smartie, if you don't think that you could get yourself to the GP even if someone went with you, could you write a letter explaining how things are and asking for a home visit?Signature removed for peace of mind0
