Write to Brian Soutar and his siser Anne Gloag (in Perthshire). Tell them to check out the comments about Stagecoach on this website and see if you get a reply.

They don't give a monkeys and care for nought but profit.

A number of times recently Stagecoach adopted a tactic of deliberately bringing Manchester city centre to a complete standstill. They did this in-order to drive a number of competitors off a very popular and profitable route. The fact that they gridlocked an entire city in the process for several hours, including cars, trams and other buses, was of no concern to them.

Putting public transport in the hands of filth like them is disasterous.
  • Ah, the company that wants £5,000,000 to run a hovercraft over the Firth of Forth. Built on Public Subsidy that does nothing to provide a public service.

I would not tolerate anyone in his position telling me to be quite in this circumstance. I would have raised my voice and continued, engaging his superior or other associate in the conversation if necessary. Cheeky fooker.

"He says he is not homophobic but doesn't believe in promoting homosexuality."

He supported the continued existence of anti-gay laws. He is a homophobe, and used his fortune to support an outdated and bigoted law. He can claim he isn't homophobic until he's blue in the face, all evidence points elsewhere.

This homophobia in the higher ranks of the company has trickled down the organisation, as can be seen in this case where Stagecoach supported the driver's actions.

And I haven't even mentioned Stagecoach's corrupt business practices, yet.

Was this on the route from Didsbury? What did they do?
  • Consider buying a car.
Sadly I can't afford one atm, so have to give Stagecoach a tenner a week.

Every day for the past week or so, it's taken over an hour to get home from work on the busses, for myself and my partner. The busses that should be every 10 minutes are one every 45 minutes or so.

I was off work today, but my partner left work at 4:30 and waited for a bus...and waited.

Eventually a bus turned up, the driver got out and wandered off.

Half an hour later, no driver for the bus and no other busses had arrived, either.

Finally, the city manager appeared and my partner asked him where the other busses were, and why there were no drivers, because it's a very common occurence in cambridge for there to be no replacement drivers.

Basically, the big cheese of the city's bus infrastructure was there, and so my partner asked why the service is so bad.

    The manager's response?

    "Be quiet."

My partner was pretty livid when he got home, because we have each paid over £500 this year alone for a terrible bus service. Granted, the road system and generally crud drivers contribute to the problem and the city manager must be under a lot of pressure, but there is no excuse for speaking to customers like that. I know that if I spoke to a customer like that at work I'd face disciplinary, or be fired.

So, any idea who to complain to and how to go about it?

Probably a waste of time - one doubts if they can actually read :D.

A very apt name though, perhaps they should adopt the following as an advertising slogan:

STAGECOACH - Driven by cowboys! :rotfl:
Some people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever :D

Contact the Traffic Commissioner. Use Google to find the office that serves your local area. Finding their addresses is difficult, and you have to use snail-mail. However, once they have received a valid complaint they tell you how to keep in touch by email, and are good about this kind of thing. They have the power to impose hefty fines on bus companies, and even to stop them operating, so managers in the industry treat them with the greatest respect. (I made a complaint about my local Stagecoach, and handed in my letter of complaint to their local office. No reply, so I contacted the Traffic Commissioner for my area. Suddenly Stagecoach started apologising...)

I think your story should also go to your local paper.

Nope... it was the 85 to Chorlton.

They put a bus on every 4 minutes or so for a couple of days at rush hour. The number of vehicles they needed to do this created a queue of stationery buses at the stop in Piccadily. That area of town is congested enough at the best of times. This deliberate action caused gridlock with nothing able to get in or out of the main terminus... INCLUDING TRAMS !

They successfully bullied competitors in to backing down back by crippling every route in or out of town.

And there was nothing that the GMPTE could do about it.

They care nothing for service only profit. Most of the latter coming from public subsidy.

Another tactic, to get around the problem of customers who learn not to like them, is to buy out smaller competitors (who decide to sell rather than go bankrupt coz of practices as detailed above) and then run the purchased vehicles carrying the old livery.

I could rant on for hours.... but you'll be glad to hear I've got work to do.
