Hi
Does anyone know the rules/regs of claiming HB and being paid 1 month in arrears.
Basically I am starting work on Monday but due to being bank staff I will b working a month in arrears so will only get 1 weeks wages on 28th Jan then any work I do after 19th December and before 19th jan I get paid in 28th Feb.
I will also be claiming WTC and CTC and am wondering how HB view or calculate this.

You can get a 4 week run on extension to your benefits when starting a new job but it's not something that is volunteered so you'll need to ask about it. It applies to JSA as well.0

Unfortunately you have to have been iro Income Support/JSA for 6 months without a break.0 -
WTC & CTC are treated as income, however they will ignore £25 a week of your income for lone parents and if you work or are contracted to work 30+ hrs a week, they also ignore another £16. From October 2009, HB will ignore 100% of any child benefit and have just started to ignore any child maintenance 100% too.
Not sure what to suggest regarding the wages but you never know the extra amount that you are awarded in tax credits may be paid by then unless you get 4 weekly payments.0 -
Yes I know, I got the run on when I first went back to work a couple of years ago.madamejones wrote: »Unfortunately you have to have been iro Income Support/JSA for 6 months without a break.:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -

I will probably start getting the extra payments within the next week oor so, but will struggle with paying bills food and full rent out of that.
I worked out that based on my estimated income from tax credits and wages I should be etitled to roughly half HB.
Looks like it's a trip down the town hall on Monday for me!:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -
Hi there.
It is regulatory that HB is paid either 2 or 4 weeks in arrears. If payment is made to you as is your right if you are not 8 weeks in arrears, you can be paid fortnightly in arrears.
There is no scope in the regs for HB to be paid in any other way,
Sorry!I currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.

If you see a lone parent adviser you may be able to access in work emergency discretionary fund (IWEDF). It's fairly new and was introduced to help lone parents starting work to overcome financial issues that arise in the forst few weeks of starting work. Make sure you see a LP adviser before you start work though.0

Are you sure about this?
It's more usual that, at the end of December (earlier, in view of Christmas) you get paid for the work you do in December. At the end of Jan, you'll be paid for Jan and at the end of Feb, you'll be paid for Feb.
Using your description i.e. getting paid at the end of Feb for Dec/Jan is effectively two months in arrears.
Is this a major bank? Have you checked out what will be paid and when with HR/Payroll?Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac
