    Heya,

Just thought I'd share that a couple of year ago when I needed to buy a new phone (previous one died!), I knew what I wanted and thought I was going to have to get a SIM unlocked one from the Carphone Warehouse and pay around £160 for the priviledge, as my PAYG tarrif on Orange is discontinued and Orange pretty much point blank reused to sell me a phone as I wasn't intrested in switching to the new tarrifs (horribly expensive in comparison!) or going contract (last month's spend = £2.66 :rotfl: ).

When I talked to one of the store assistants, however (lovely, helpful chap!), he said I didn't need to do that as all store sold Carphone Warehouse phones are SIM unlocked anyway, as they never know which network then next one out the back might be sold on! So instead of shelling out £160 on a SIM unlocked phone, I wound up spending about £70 for a T-Mobile PAYG pack (£60 phone, £10 mandatory topup I think), then just swapped my SIM in - no problem! :D

    I couldn't get one :(

They rejected my card , but somehow managed to take a penny :( then the next day they have now risen the price and out of stock

i missed out on a great deal :( , but i hope everyone else can enjoy it :)

Aw, CLLC, that's a real shame....when I phoned them this morning to ask where mine was she otld me the order had not gone through, so put it through and I got the order sent to warehouse e-mail. hopefully they will deliver it tomorrow.

If I were you I'd phone them up and tell them you got your thread in the MSE weekly e-mail and boosted all their sales for them - and see if they'll send you another phone for the same price - it wouldn't hurt to ask, would it?

CLLC, there are loads in london stores, so if you can get to a Car phone shop then possibly best to get it there, or call your nearest one and see if they have any in stock or if they can request one for you, then you can go pick it up from the store....

I've had an email saying they are out of stock but will keep trying to supply me with one within 7 days.

Well if you dont mind buying £30 airtime they seem to be doing a free pay as you go phone on Orange.

Well , i phoned them and said that the card wasn't accepted and i have never come across customer services so rude :(

Then i spoke to the manager and he was just as bad!!

Seriously disappointed but glad i could help others :)

Did anyone else notice the price hike they suddenly put on!

  • i ordered mine last friday and hadn't come by yesterday even though other's were being delivered quickly so I rang CPW today and they told me they were out of stock! Obviously they must use the Last In First Out method when sending out stock :(

Ordered late last night on receipt of Martin's email, the on-screen 'confirmation' said out of stock but I then got an email with an order number saying that it is expected back in stock and it will then be sent immediately, but a later email says new stock may not be allocated to me. They have done the 1p thing with my credit card company who 'phoned me, I have confirmed the transaction and Quidco has tracked. So keeping fingers crossed but at least it was not for a Christmas present so if it does not turn up no real loss.
If money saving starts to involve irritation or frustration the fine line between thrift and greed should be examined.
  • Mine arrived today. Ordered online on Monday. I am impressed :) It was only intended as a temp phone while I got mine sorted, but it will be a good spare as it is unlocked and it is small and neat!

    Thanks OP :):)
