Avoid simplyswitch.com
Options
Based on one of Martin's articles I decided to switch gas and electric and liked the idea of cashback (who doesn't!) so chose simplyswitch.com and through them chose British Gas as my preferred supplier. That was on the 14th Nov 2005. Despite several EMails to simplyswitch my supply has not been switched and there is no sign of my cashback. Not one of my EMails has been replied to so all readers be warned simplyswitch are not providing a quality service.

Also keep in mind my experience of USWITCH. The website suggested to me I could save £130 switching to another company but when I telephoned the suggested company and asked for a breakdown in costs I found that their standing charge was slightly lower but the price per unit was much higher than I was already paying so in fact it was NOT cheaper. So I stayed put.
Just assume everyone is going to screw you unless you prove otherwise.0 -
Which company did Uswitch recommend to you?0

They recommended Powergen (this was a few months ago) I did the comparison again today and it now says to stay put with Scottish Power as they are £10 per year cheaper.0

I switched supplier via energyhelpline in April and I am still waiting for my cashback. I chased it up a few times giving them time to process it, and was told "cheque will be sent out" "being passed to Head Office" and other similar excuses but still no money. It gets to the stage where you have to weigh up the cost of calling them up chasing the cashback to the actual amount of cashback in the first place.I just can't be happy today0

yes I agree there is a trade-off in your time/calls and the amount of cashback but I wanted to switch as BG were quite a bit cheaper for me - it wasn't so much the cashback. I have since raised the issue with British Gas and as yet no response from them either. I have changed suppliers several times in the dim and distant past and never experienced any problems but wondering if things have changed with more people switching, companies can no longer cope with it.
There are probably some moneysavers amongst us saying 'don't let them get away with it or they will'.
I think it may be prudent that Martin warns people about the hassle of switching and using organisations such as simplyswitch - the name couldn't be further from the truth !

Mmm wish I had read this before I used simplyswitch. No problem in switching but no sign of my cashback and no response at all to emails. I agree with the orginal poster avoid simplyswitch"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

Hmm - having same problem here. No sign of the cashback for when I transferred to Atlantic a while back. Tried emails, phone calls, and still nothing.0

I take it all back. They dont answer mails but they have credited me £15 into my bank account today!"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

Me too, switched several months ago thru simplyswitch but no sign of any cashback. Time someone gave 'em a kick methinks.0

Hi all
I too used simplyswitch thanx to Martin's recommendation, but judging from the response in this forum, he should take them off the list since their service is shocking and their cashback mostly non-existant.
I switched on 12/9, and heard nothing until end Oct! Then they say cashback usually received within 60 days. Seems usually not.
Called 13/11 as no cashback received (after 60 days). Told credit would be arranged now! Well surprise, it never was.
Called 27/11 Told would get cheque sent out today. Is post that slow? Still not got it.
Called 7/12 Told would get call back after 10am as person dealing with it only starts then. Mmm, doubt I will ever get that call. Every time a different excuse or promise.
Makes the whole point of cashback pointless. Is it worth going to so much time and effort to chase £15?
Optimist - take nothing back. You lucky to have your money and after more badgering perhaps I will too - someday, but that's no reason to excuse shocking service and sloppy delivery!
Avoid this bunch!
