Lost item in the post. Shouldn't the seller refund my money?

Please I need advice.

I paid for an item on the 26th of November. Seller said she posted first class on the 29th of November. I still haven't received this item so I believe it's lost.
I have contacted seller about 3 times now and the email she sent to me was:

Hi, i have my receipt from the post office and the postcodes written by the post office person next to each item because i sent 3 items that day. I can go into the post office with it and get them to trace it but I once had a lost item from a seller and they did this and it took the post office quite a while to respond and then it wasn
't found but I can try that for you definately.

I have received other items I paid for after hers.

My question is shouldn't she return my money and then sort it out with Royal Mail? For one I know and said to her they can't trace first class standard post and nothing will come out of that but she can claim for lost post.

Thanks.

I would ask her for a refund, and suggest that she makes a claim via Royal Mail for the lost item. Also point out that RM will not be able to track the item as it was not sent by a trackable method.

Most reasonable sellers would immediately issue a refund, yours doesn't sound like a particularly bad one, more an inexperienced one to me!

Short answer is yes. But leave it until Monday or Tuesday. In the meantime I think it is important that you pop into your local sorting office to check it's not there.

i posted a letter inland on 24th november and it still hasnt arrived at the persons house , there is some kind of strike in coventry depot ,, dont know if that helps ,, but usually if item not received , u have to wait 21-28 days before a claim can be made via royal mail, and proof of postage is to value of £36
Dont forget that little Thanks button , only takes a sec

try your local sorting office first
then if no joy,RM normaly say
15 working days to say its lost
as its past that and there is no sign
of it,open up a dispute on paypal
    before its too late.

    She is resisting a refund,dragging
out the time length so its too late to make
a claim, get in there and make your claim for
    a refund yourself

The amount of buyers that can't be bothered to do this amazes me. I end up ringing their sorting office for them, which I don't mind, but one office a few weeks ago just wouldn't answer the phone so I had to refund.
  • Darlinton sorting office never answer the phone!!!!

I don't refund until 15 working days....but i do state that in my listings, often things turn up at the last minute.
Never put off until tomorrow what you can avoid doing altogether.:D
  • I would wait a little longer.I had been waiting for 3 parcels from approx 20th November & on Tuesday saw my local RF delivery man & told him about them. He said they had a backlog at the local sorting office.Miracles do happen !!!! they turned up the next day - all of them together.Very strange.
  • Thanks everyone. I've been away for the weekend and didn't have access to the internet.

Unfortunately I sent a request asking for a refund before reading the thread so I didn't read your advice about checking the local sorting office first.

I didn't think about doing this but I'll do that tomorrow and see if anything is been held for me.

You should bear in mind that it is Christmas and the seller may simply not have the cash to refund you immediately, they may have to wait until they have received the refund from Royal Mail before they can afford to pass it back to you.
