  • :grouphug: you're all brilliant you know. And right of course ;) love the butcher analogy Maz! And yes he is probably very thrilled with writing such a knobby post  Notice how father's are never bullied over their decisions regarding work!

Think I could manage a cheese & pineapple stick now ;)

Take it with a pinch of salt DD. I am the worst of the worst when it comes to working with little ones. My older 3 spent many weeks with the nanny while I was away on tour, they used to come with me when possible but life on a tour bus with kids is no fun for anyone. Ok, so the kids do say that sometimes they wished they had a normal mum, one that worked 9-5 but in all honesty they are pretty sane and well rounded kids so it didn't do them too much harm.

Now i am a bit older and more established in my career I can make the choice to not tour any more and to stay at home enjoying Lily. But financially that just wasn't possible with the others. I had a useless rats @rsehole of an ex who didn't so much as buy the kids a pair of socks, so what was i supposed to do? live on the dole? !!!!!! that.

So, over the years i've grown a thick skin, yeah people have accused me of all sorts. if i left them at home with the nanny i was neglecting them, if i took them with me i was cruel and selfish... letting them mix with druggy musicians. In reality they didn't have it so bad, they have seen a fair bit of the world, have some pretty famous 'aunties and uncles' which they love to name-drop about in school... their parties were always well visited just in case X pops in :)

Kids adapt and as long as the family is a happy one the kids will do just fine. So stuff all of the ill-informed opinions, they aren't worth the energy.

I meant to post about the spacer DD, my DS had to start using one when he was really wee but was to young to understand so I used to have to lie him on the floor and sit behind him with my legs sort of clamping his head in place so he couldn't move and do it that way. I know it sounds cruel but it was the only way to keep his head in place! and the doc suggested it! If Elliot's a bit older he might be easier to reason with though.
It did make a big difference to the coughing at night though.

  • He'd hate me then!

I have to work but even if I didn't I would still CHOOSE to work if only for my own sanity!
If I was a stay at home Mum I'd go insane!

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.
  • The guy is new (22 posts!) so was stirring things up, perhaps being unaware of how his comments would come across within the chat. It is healthy to have debate sometimes too but should never be personally targeted. Can you imagine if we all looked after our own kids 24/7 and his wife was out of a job? Sure he would have something to say then too.

Please dont let him get to you. We all just go about and do our best...

  • I wonder if you'll get a response, hopefully something more considered than their original post!

How hypocritical to say my wife is a great childminder, but kids are better off at home! Way to market your wife's skills mate! bit like saying "have you met the new butcher, he's a vegetarian!"

You're right to be mad DD - i'm mad for you!!!

    Love the analogy Maz!

To be honest I wouldn't even go back to see if there is a reply.
You handled it well and it should now remain dead and buried where it lay

  • Good morning.
    Love the hats Maz.
  • DD,
    Ignore the !!!!!!.

As a former childminder-I see his point (made in a very bad way) in that people will try and leave kids in their chosen childcare facility because they are worried/concerned about missing work etc but he makes it in a very BAD way. I know how stressed and upset you were finding the right childcare for Elliot and DO NOT listen to his words-he cannot judge you as he does not know you.

We know how much you love Elliot. Btw, how did he get on with his spacer last night?

You're right Bunny, it is very sad that so many people HAVE to return to work either financially OR because it's either that or their career nose dives.

He did not tolerate the spacer very well! Me and OH did it on each other, then a teddy and Elliot grinned away, until we got near his face with it  mind you, he didn't wake so often in the night so maybe we are on the up anyway?

About the spacer - my DS started using his at around 2 - The way i got him to tolerate it was to tell him it was fireman's breathing apperatus - he had an obsession with firemen/fire engines and so was quite easy! I also used silly things to count while he breathed - like elephant, fireman, smelly jelly etc - he soon got a hang of it and picked what I counted while he breathed - we made it a sort of a game - might be worth a try!
