I think I need some help. I'm usually good with pc's and windows but this has got me stuck.
In IE6 and Outlook everytime a £ should appear, it has been replaced with a J.
I've searched google for suggestions.
I've tried to change my settings : tools, int options, fonts shows cyrillic as default language script and will not accept change to latin based. I'm not sure if / when this changed, but it looks suss to me.
I downloaded an auto update from microsoft today - ran it express so I don't know what it was.
I'm worried about a virus or something, though I've run norton, spybot and adaware - nothing sinister
Any ideas anyone ?

Have you checked the keyboard language settings in control panel ?
I wouldn't have thought it was avirus, but ....
The microsoft update just pushes patches as they are ready, it doesn't do it in response to anything on your pc.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
checked the language - it's all UK
this only seems to happen in ie6 and outlook.
all other office products are fine.

funny elvis.
your quote of my original post reads as follows on my pc :
"every time a J should appear, it has been replaced with a J"
then your " ££££....mines ok" reads as "JJJJJJJ....mines OK.
I can type this £ symbol no probs, but my settings will not read pound signs for some reason.
Just noticed, it has affected excel as well.Karma is a wonderful thing.0 -

Try having a look on the M$ website in some of their tech support documents. Doing a search there may give you a few clues...Jumbo

If its just in OE/IE and not all the time, then you need to:
Launch OE
Tools
Options
Spelling Tab
Ensure the language on this tab is set at English UK (down the bottom)
Click apply.
Should solve it.
May also need to:
Launch IE
Tools
Internet Options
Languages
English Uk
Apply
If it does it at any other time
Start
Control Panel
Regional & Language Options
Languages button
English UK
and maybe even
Start
Control Panel
Regional & Language Options
Languages Tab
Details
English UK keyboard
Apply
It will not hurt to check all these settings.0 -
this language setting problem still exists and is now annoying me to the point that I want to reinstall windows and ie6 from scratch to try and fix it.
it does not look like I can just re-install ie6 by itself, but if anyone has suggestions, please thorw them at me.
I have an upgrade version of xp home, plus my original windows 98 cd. Short of formatting the pc, which I'd hate to do,but could live with, is there any easy way to reinstall windows xp and ie 6 ?Karma is a wonderful thing.0 -
You should be able to boot from cd rom and select the option to "repair windows", it's not a clean install but it usually fixes most problems and importantly you don't lose your files and application."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
