You've got to be kidding. If I get a phonecall claiming to be from my bank, how does this process confirm anything? If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -

It doesn't confirm anything of course but it does take you down a route to confirm that you are who they want.0 -
That's right little voice, but I had initially asked how someone would confirm that a random phonecall really is from their bank, and that was the reply I had to that question. As you say, it doesn't confirm anything, which is why I replied the way I did.If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0

To be perfectly honest I always hang up and phone them to confirm it was them on the phone which is quicker than pressing 1 for this and 2 for that and no the automated system doesn't prove it's them but nor does a person calling who states they are from XYZ Bank. The only sure way to know you are talking to your bank is to call the number at the top of the statement, or better still go into the bank in person.
pressing buttons confirms who you are to the bank but not who they are to you.......Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p
It is not illegal to open another persons mail unless you intend to commit fraud - this is frequently incorrectly posted
I live in my head - I find it's safer there:p
