I'm sure we've been here before..... but I'm gonna mention it again.

£32.50 face value ticket (already expensive !) with an additional £7.50 in UNAVOIDABLE charges PER TICKET.

What I mean by this, is that however you pay, or choose to obtain the tickets there is no way around these charges... as such they should be included in the price of the ticket.

Funniest of the lot is the new "e-ticket"... That's where they email you the ticket and you have to pay £3.50 for using your own ink and paper to print it. That's right .... you save them money by using your own resources to produce and deliver the ticket and you pay them for the privilege !

...and all you get for this charge is standard postal delivery, not recorded and no option for recorded in this case.

You don't even have the option to exercise your right as a consumer to take your custom elsewhere, as they have a monopoly on tickets for this and other events.

Legalised touting... nothing more nothing less. They can add any level of booking fee they see fit and there is nothing as a fan of this band that I can do about it.

Why aren't people screaming louder about this ?

Because people understand thats how TM make their money.

No thats the promoter that gives TM exclusivity.
  • Illuminate; I wholeheartedly agree with your post about ticketmaster, they really are a scourge on the music industry.

Some people will try and defend them and say that they are just a company making a profit but as you say charging you to send you an email or to collect the tickets in person is really low. I typed "why is ticketmaster such a rip off" into google and it returned thousands of hits. In the states they have almost a 90% share of the market and promoters and venues recieve kickbacks from ticketmaster to use their service to distribute tickets. The band Pearl Jam tried to take them to court due to their unscrupulous dealings.

I hope the credit crunch catches up with this megatout and runs them out of business completely. Unfortunately I fear that now that people know that it works someone else would just step up to take their place.
  • I worked at ticketmaster for a few weeks whilst at University and got a sneak peak at their pricing. The majority of their profit comes from "admin charges" - the facility to print, software needed (yes, they do have a computer program to allow you to print you own tickets and that costs money), postage etc etc.

I am not sying I like it, but that is how they make a proft. Yes it is a near monopoly, but on that works and works fairly well.

All I can do is look at companies that used to be monopolies and look at what has happened since they lost that monopoly. It is not a pretty picture.
  • Hi everyone, sorry if this has come up before but I have a problem that no one seems to know how to solve.

I have had 40 quids worth of Ticketmaster tickets for almost a year now. I understood that I could use them almost anywhere and yet I now find out that my local Theatre and concert hall do not except them. I can use them at Nottingham Ice Arena or small local venues. Phone number on tickets is pretty useless and so is the web site to be honest. I phoned local theatre and was told that they are forever getting complaints because they cannot be used at the major places.

I can't actually give them away either because no one seems to want them. My sons are professional musicians involved with music colleges full of "poor" students and non of them want them either. What can I do with them other than through them in the bin.

You might be able to sell them on eBay.

Do a quick search and see if there are any others listed. That could also give you an idea what you might expect to get for them.

Alternatively.... A Christmas pressie for somebody elsewhere in the UK ?
  • i had ticketmaster purchased tickets for a show at blackpool empress ballroom and when they scanned them the venue thought they were either fake or resold

I had something similar. Called Ticketmaster's HQ in London (took a bit of ferreting to get through to the right person) they sent me a list of concerts that I could use tickets for and swapped them for me. Took about six months to find something I wanted to see but got there eventually. Try London Customer Services and take it from there.

  • Thanks everyone. I'll give it some thought. I think I'm gonna call HQ to see if they can help as the number on the tickets is naff. Thank you all again
  • Ticketmaster don't take any money off the face value of the ticket. You're paying them the £7.50 so you don't have to drive down to the venue on the day of on-sale and buy the tickets from the box office. All ticket agencies have these charges, if you don't like it stop being lazy and buy your tickets from the box office at the venue, I do this it saves me a fortune. You would be better off calling customer support, I used to work for ticketmaster and the people at the London HQ offices were very rude and unhelpful to fellow employees they were even less helpful with customers. Customer support staff, when I was there, acctually worked damn hard to try to help customers they put up with rubbish wages, rude and sometimes bullying managment not to mention having to deal with sometimes very unpleasant customers who often threaten staff!

I think you are wrong therew as even if you go to the box office you still get charged a booking fee per ticket and a credit/debit charge per ticket even if it is only one card transaction. God knows what box office you use
