I always have peas and sweetcorn in the freezer, that way the kids at least have 2 veg even when its with HM chicken nuggets or HM Burgers.
I thought sometimes frozen is fresher than fresh. I mean when you look at some of the shelf dates on veg in the supermarket how can that be "fresh"0 -
I prefer the taste of fresh veg, but tend to use more frozen. Frozen is easier to keep, less wastage and apparently it keeps its vitamins better than fresh.
I do use fresh butternut squash and sweet potato, as they keep for longer, and this year im going to try and grow some myself!!!0 -
thats what i thought peas and stuff like that are better frozen unless you grow your own and pick as you need then i do buy fresh veg as well it was just that she didnt even regard frozen as being any goodbe loyal, be loud, be cas, be proud

Hi helen,
We have an older thread on this which includes a poll so I'll merge your thread with it as it helps to keep all the replies together.

Frozen petit pois. Frozen sweetcorn. Currently trialling frozen spinach. Some veg is always there when the rest is run out/gone manky. Some veg better than no veg!!
Also have tinned sweetcorn for salads etc. Usually have a couple of tins of potatoes for emergencies.
Everything else = fresh.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
We buy frozen peas and sweetcorn, tinned tomatoes & artichokes, jarred passata and dried Chinese mushrooms. Oh, yeah and I found water chestnuts in a jar at Aldi last weekend. I can't find fresh waterchestnuts anywhere and the tinned ones are vile, so hoping the jarred ones are nice. Everything else we buy fresh. Didn't have enough stuff from our small garden last year to preserve much of it (just a few dried beans which were excellent), though we still have a bit of perpetual spinach which survived the frost (that stuff is amazingly hearty!) Unfortunately it doesn't look like we'll get an allotment this year, so I don't expect we'll do a lot of freezing of our own veg this year either. Want to be more organised this year and use a coldframe to grow veg all year round!

Which do you prefer fresh or frozen veg? Which is cheaper? Which is healthier? Which tastes better??
Having recently switched over to fresh from frozen I have to say that fresh taste so much better and you can do so much more with it, but I'm not sure about the cost or healthiness compared to frozen? After all you can buy a bag of mixed veg from tesco for 89p... and they're always going on about how frozen is better etc?

frozen is great for convenience, and for adding veg to a meal easily when you havent got the time/energy/inclination to prepare and cook a lot of different veg. some stuff is fine frozen, and im happy to use it (mixed veg especially).
other stuff (brocolli being one) is one area where i will not compromise - it has to be fresh every time
just do what works for you. you'll still being getting some nutrients whichever way you go about it (and i doubt freezing veg kills off any more goodness than overcooking fresh stuff does!), and some nutrients has got to be better than none, right?know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0
