Crikey, how much more are France paying for their Gas/Leccy now?

Fact is they aren't actually paying any more for than they were on Tuesday but if the oft-repeated (by a few posters) 'currency calculation trick' is used to try and justify the argument that France (and other Eurozone countries) pay more for their fuel than we do, then since Tuesday they are paying approx 10% more now than they were 2 days ago. They clearly aren't so it's a totally silly way to calculate it, which has been my argument all along. A far better method of comparing prices throughout Europe would be to show the average price of Gas and Leccy annual bills as a proportion of average annual take home pay. Discuss (or not if you don't want to, of course)...

Yeah, between that and oil going up 10% today, the people who want to compare domestic gas and electricity prices in the UK to oil prices in the US, and our prices to those in France at nominal currency exchange rates, are not having a good day of it!Hurrah, now I have more thankings than postings, cheers everyone!0

Also in France they produce a huge proportion of their electric by nuclear power, which is heavily subsidised, and are not affected as much by oil/gas fluctuations0

Even if it is slightly inaccurate, surely the fact they come up as being a few hundred quid a year more expensive prooves wrong the people that say that the Energy Firms in the UK rip us of, because the rest of Europe is loads cheaper?Sunny in Southampton.0

centrica=British Gas=French. I'm sure the french aren't paying the same proportion of their wages on energy as we are, They use no where near as much gas as we do per head of population, for one the climate is better , secondly a lot of french (rural)homes aren't connected to gas supply, my father in law has bought a house in France in a village with no gas!! If the french got ripped off the same level as us , they would be burning sheep on the roads!! http://www.frenchpropertylinks.com/essential/utilities.html
Are you saying the energy firms in the UK aren't ripping us off?0 -

Bit of a !!!!!! that, considering you will have to heat it during this harsh weather, now....... if you would of chose house in a village in the south of France..... you would be quids in, on energy saved... and not being screwed with extortionate prices!! proves my point really.. lol;)0 -
Twaddle.centrica=British Gas=French.
Damn those evil utility companies for giving us bad weather. It's a conspiracy to put up our bills I tells you!I'm sure the french aren't paying the same proportion of their wages on energy as we are, They use no where near as much gas as we do per head of population, for one the climate is better ,secondly a lot of french (rural)homes aren't connected to gas supply, my father in law has bought a house in France in a village with no gas!! Erm, that page didn't give any information about French pricing at all. But if gas is less common, more of them are missing out on one of the cheapest fuels to heat their homes!0 -
so centrica is an English company is it??
The fact is these commodities are a necessity's in this country, i was comparing our climate to the south of france, not blaming the energy companies for the weather!! what i blame the energy companies for is exploiting its customers in line with our climate!!
They wouldn't "wish for a cold winter, to cash in on their customers" would they??? oh yes, and one made it public!!
Like i said above, we are more dependant, if the demand in France is lower than ours , surely the prices would be higher per head!! supply and demand, bulk buying!!
oh no , that doesnt come in to affect with energy companies!!0 -

No, it's British, listed on the London Stock Exchange and one of the FTSE 100 companies.
Scottish & Southern Energy (Hydro, Southern, Swalec, Atlantic) are also British & on the FTSE
Ebico & UW are also British ( I think)
EDF is owned by Electricite de France, whihc is about 85% owned by the french government, and the rest in ons the DAC
Eon is owned by Eon,and npower by RWE, both effective monopolies in Germany, and listed on the DAX
Scottish Power is owned by Ibedrola which is Spanish and listed on the IBEX.
Don't you hate it when you make things up/don't do any research/believe the man in the pub or at your door and you end up looking silly?0 -

Of course, it doesn't stop them from having foreign shareholders taking their dividends. Dividends which are significant enough to have been calculated by energywatch as taking the first £75 from each and everyone's annual fuel bill...Call me Carmine....
