Quicken or Microsoft Money?

Hi I have never used this type of software as I currently key in all my financial data manually into Excel.
I am considering getting either Quicken or MS Money for Xmas.
Has anyone experience of using either (or both) of these packages?
Do they offer anything extra over my current system?
I bank online with Smile and I dont think they support downloading statements or transactions directly into either of these applications yet so the manual input will remain. I just didnt know if they have good tools to forecast and things like that in?
All advice is welcome.
Thanks
Paul

can I recommend a little peice of software I recently found that does everything I want.
Its called Acemoney and can be found at:
http://www.mechcad.net/products/acemoney/
This is a great peice of software and best of all its free if you only have one lot of accounts.
The unlimited version only costs about £15-16 thanks to the exchange rate at the moment.
It may not have all the extra features of Quicken or Money but as I say I havent had a problem since I started using it.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 297 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts0 -
quicken by far the better one having used both for years0

I too have used Quicken for years - excellent program. I don't think that there is too much difference between Quicken & Money though and the latter is likely to be cheaper especially if bundled.0

What's the ongoing support like for Money, given MS's attitude to making things obsolete?
I am using Quicken 98 deluxe (Y2k fixed version) which they supplied free when Quicken 5 become Y2k compromised.
The online support/updates still seem to work and generally it works AOK.
Is that true for people who bought Money over 6 years ago?0 -

I abandoned spreadsheets because they just got too labour intensive. I run multiple credit cards and was having trouble importing and predicting balances reliably.
I currently use MS Money 2004 and find it good, but have heard mixed reports about the 2005 version, which has just come out.
A cheapskate way forward would be to buy the old one. It's cheaper, does everything you'll need, and has been debugged,
There is also a very helpful newsgroup if you have questions http://groups-beta.google.com/group/microsoft.public.uk.money/threads?gvc=20 -
I have used both but much prefer Quicken. I use an old version which may be available for free if you use a site like tucows.com or similar.

Tried both when i first went on PC in 1995..
Still using quicken can't knock it at all and theres still a few things ime finding out about it now after nearly 10 years of usage.
IMHO quicken wins hands down

Just to answer MaryMarkD's question about old versions of MS Money: I'm still running Money 97, even after upgrading to a new PC with Windows XP, and I've had no problems.

Thanks for that, DT.0
