Moorcroft Debt Recovery Ltd

Does anyone know what they are like ?

We are on a DMP with the CCCS, and Next have passed our account to them.

I've spoken to CCCS and Moorcroft, and they have put proceedings on hold for 10 days until the CCCS paperwork reaches them.

Has anyone had any dealings with Moorcroft ? Just wondering whether it'll be plain sailing or hassle.

Thanks.

Moorcroft are, to put it plainly, a bunch of 'thugs'. They, in common with a few other debt collection agencies, are well known for their 'harrassment phone calls' and seem, in spite of the OFT Debt Collection Guidelines, to be oblivious to the fact that they should deal with a nominated third party, or DMP manager, such as CCCS or National Debtline.

Be very weary when dealing with them, and take the advice of CCCS if they try to contact you directly.

Also - read, and download for future reference, the OFT Guidelines on how a Debt Collection Company should conduct their business in order to retain their credit licence:

    Good luck.

    Thanks.

I deal with them a lot at the CAB and don't have any problem with them, I would expect them to accept the amount offered within about two weeks.

No need for you to contact them
  • One of my debts was passed to them but I haven't had any problems. They contacted me once when my payments dropped for a while but were ok. Not the most pleasant of people to talk to but then no DCA's are!!

    Hi fb

My post (#2) would, at first glance, appear to give an opinion that directly conflicts with what you are saying.
This is not my intention - rather it brings up a very valid point in that Debt Collection Agencies are, or appear to be, more willing to act reasonably, and within OFT guidelines, when dealing with organisations like CAB, NDL or CCCS.
Is this, perhaps, because they know that any deviation, from those guidelines, or unethical behaviour of any sort is more likely to be reported to the appropriate bodies, by one of the Debt Counselling Charities than by an individual debtor?
Certainly the many threads/posts on this forum that detail the often horrific experiences that individual debtors have had when trying to deal with Moorcroft (and, I hasten to add, with several of the other well known dcas) would tend to indicate that there is a 'double standard' in operation.
You will, I am sure, have noticed that I consistently reccomend that posters, wherever possible, contact one of the Debt Counselling Charities, when confronted by the often 'bullying' behaviour of a dca - if only for the reason that these charities are more used to dealing with this section of the 'Debt Collection Mafia' and are less likely to be misled or conned by them.
I continue to champion the excellent work that agencies, like yours, do - especially in these difficult financial times. It is to be hoped that at least some of the taxpayers' money, promised by Brown, will filter down to charities like yours, so that you may become both more accessible and more effective in what looks to be the worst 12 months that this economy has ever experienced.
Well done and keep up the good work - please.

By the way, and based on personal experience, I still think that Moorcroft are thugs.

If Moorcroft were unable to provide your OH with a true copy of the original, executed consumer credit areement, then they (Moorcroft) were 'in default' and had no right to sell on the debt, or pass it to another debt collection agency for collection.
Your OH should send the current dca a copy of the letter (thanks fermi) that you will find on the following link:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=15391259

Not only does their behaviour breach OFT guidelines, it is a breach of both the Consumer Credit Act, 1974 and the Data Protection Act 1998.

Moocroft, eh? Bless their cotton socks.

  • Give you an idea about moorcroft they wanted me to confirm who I was on the phone I wouldn't do it they wanted to know know my date of birth I told them a date of birth that makes me ten years older than I am they said oh thats right you are MR Wright! Again I refused to deny or confirm this he then proceeded to talk about the debt I asked if they have they original consumer agreement for the debt for Mr Wright? told me they don't need one! I told him I believed he was acting unlawfull disscusing a debt with someone he hadn't confirmed to be the original person of the debt (data protection) and obtaining information under false pretenses of which I got pretty much shouted at down the phone that they are sending a ballif to my address. I just wanted to know what is the best link to the best letter on here to send to moorcroft to get the original consumer agreement from them? and does anyone know their address Ta
