Nothing at all - its a yeast infection - very common. Go see your GP for a true diagnosis but you will need Nizoral shampoo for the scalp and possibly Nizoral cream for the face.(shampoo sold in Boots, cream on prescription only)

Theres plenty of us on this board who suffer - Sebhorreic Dermatitis. It starts in the scalp and if not treated and kept at bay, the flakes dropping and landing on your cheeks, eyebrows, nose and chin just spread the infection. I suffer with very bad patches around my ears and temples with lots of flakes in my ears.

Theres no cure. You just have to treat it and lean how to keep it at bay. I use Head and shoulders daily saving the nizoral treatments for big flare ups

I have dry itchy skin in my ear canals (doctor said I had a bit of exema in there). Is that the same thing as you mentioned?

I clean them too much with ear buds because it relieves the itching:o

    Hi to all,

When I was younger (ie 7-8) I was diagnosed with seborheic dermatitis (sp? lol) on my scalp stemming from having severe cradle cap as a baby and I tried everything, betnovate in various strengths, nizoral, t-gel, some tar stuff. I had my mum scrubbing at my head with a nailbrush on many occassions trying to get rid of flakes and scabs.

For the past couple of years I've found that using a baby head to toe wash (mainly johnsons) n baby shampoo/conditioner have helped. Especially if I have a good wash in the head to toe wash and then put cream on my face after.

The past few months it has got worse. I have dry flaky skin all across my forehead, my hairline at the front, my hairline at my neck, in my eyebrows and I've got a patch starting next to my right ear but its on my face (iykwim) and its this patch that is worrying as it means its spreading.

E45 cream doesnt work anymore for me. It tends to dry out my skin even more. I've been using Vaseline Intensive hand n body lotion which has a good effect initially but isnt really helping long term.

I went to the FP clinic this morning and she saw my face and asked about it (without me prompting her!) and mentioned aqueous cream and aveeno and suggested I see my own doctor for referral to dermatologist. I've been to boots and got a tub of the aqueous cream .. LOL .. no more late night hassles of asking OH to put cream on my face and him squeezing the tube and it going everywhere!!

It getting worse over the years is the way of it Im afraid- theres a few of us on here posting about our face breaking out at times

What works for me is Nizoral Shampoo and now a Nizarol Cream. The shampoo you can pick up from Boots - the cream is prescription only. Get the scalp under control and the face clears pretty quickly, I just need to use the cream now and then around my ears and temples

Hope you get yours under control asap

Please see your GP for ongoing flakey / dry skin problems: there is no one solution, it may be trial and error, but it does help to know what it is in the first place! eg if you get a fungal infection on top of eczema it can look quite different, and requires different treatment!

    And remember
