Dry flakey skin

I've just been told that my problem (flakes & scabs in my head together with flakey ears) is scalp psoriasis. Is this the same thing? I've tried several things that the gp has given me (ketoconazole, diprosalic & dermovate) & they just make my scalp drier & itchier. Only thing that seems to slightly relieve it is dovobet. Should I be trying some of the above? This started when menopause kicked in!!0

My psoriasis has been greatly helped (finally after 15 years of flaking) by not using anything (shampoo, shower gel) with sodium lauryl sulphate in it. Strangely enough after six weeks of using an SLS free toothpaste my peridontal pockets were much improved as well, but I guess Toothsmith would be sceptical about that.
Cutting out SLS worked where nothing on prescription ever had.

Hi,
You said that you have difficulty finding vitamin E. There is a cream called Vita E which you can get sent by mail order for £7. It is in a 45g tub which lasts well. I can't remember the orderline number but if you type Pep-50 into google you will get to the company website. The order is on there somewhere.
Good luck.0 -
My son used Pep-50 which is only available by mail order. It is a thick ointment and the tub lasts forever! But it did work well.
Just type it into google.0 -
Here I go again....

This brand of comfrey has been my godsend. I apply it to my face every night (mainly T zone or wherever it is itchy or spotty or red or dry!) - even in summer and even when I was in 30+ degrees in cyprus!
It doesn't work immediately - but it really does calm the skin down, and it is very greasy - but you get to know how much to apply. As it is greasy, it is absolutely no good for day time, unless you are having a day in and not wearing make up.
Day time I use Liz Earle light moisturiser and EB mineral make up.
I wish I had discovered all of the above donkeys years ago!
It is all trial and error. The above comfrey is especially rich in allantoin - which acts as a barrier and heals and protects the skin.
Thanks to this site... I found out all of this!Genie

Not at all.
I don't have any truck with all the horror stories that abound the internet about SLS, but it does make certain oral problems worse, and there are some conditions I recommend people switch from SLS containing toothpastes for.
By the same token, avoiding SLS containing shower gels and shampoos is worth a try for those with skin conditions. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
