Currys to go bankrupt this week?

I can't see currys going bust myself, they sell stuff people want and you can take it home that day in most cases, It might be more expensive than the web but knowing you will actually get your goods that day is worth a premium, Currys is here to stay.0

Is that a new Edwina Curries chain of stores that sell memories of the 80s/90s recessions?
Do you reckon there is a market for Edwina Currie / John Major !!!!!! vids?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

ATM it isn't... (for Curry's, at least).Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
Does this trade pay for the rent of the shops / advertising / wages etc?

No but the potential to make money if it is run properly makes it easier to borrow money and stave off going down the pan.
DSG going under would leave a huge hole in most high streets and retail parks, I think the problem with Currys and PC world is that the stock is very dated, people want brand new lines and the web offers this, If they had way of turning over the stock faster I think they would sell more, maybe be quicker to discount the dated stuff to get it out of the store and make room for the new lines.0 -
I disagree - I've honestly only seen TWO customers wanting stock we didn't have in yet - one was released that DAY (12-inch Sony laptop we never stocked anyway) and the other was the pain-in-the-!!!! to find Samsung NC10...Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0

Hmm, is Dixons still part of the Currys group?
I ask because I was about to order a tv from them, perhaps I shouldn't...Sometimes you get what you deserve... :cool2:0 -

Maybe but there are many more like me that have a quick look and if its not in buy it from a website that has it, theres no point in asking if the item you want is not in as you won't be able to take it home that day, might as well just use the web0 -

These are just the big retailers. Where does the beautiful bailing out end? You realise the problem at the weaker buying outlooks that is hurting retailers also is hitting the manufacturers.
Think of Miele and Bosch and Zanussi and Panasonic and Sony - all the stuff these retailers sell. There is little need for such giant stores anyway in my opinion. Such an expensive middle-man.
Each company could warehouse the stuff themselves in the UK and make purchasing all online, lower their prices from the savings whilst perhaps upping their marketing budget a fraction after cutting out the margin of the big retailers.
These comments are always raised with the 'switched on internet' buyers.....but would you really be happy with this??
How would you ever know what the item was like before you bought it?? Rely on comments on posting boards like this, where anonymous people can say yeah this product is great! How would they know, what would they be comparing it to???
Rely on the distance selling rules to send it back?? Most ask you to pay a restocking fee or a transport fee, If more customers start sending them back because they don’t like the look of a product they will only increase the cost to cover any losses they make……….It may cost you £80 to find a set you like!!
How would you ever compare brands from different companies??
As was mentioned JL are very good but with a very small selection, would you be truly happy choosing between 5 sets on 5 different stores?? Or would you be happy buying your £2k tv in Asda?? Be careful taking that to the car!!
I do agree that some large stores can be pretty poor but I tend to go for the range and not the service.0 -
Further to the Dixons question, if I do buy a TV from Dixons and they go out of business in the new year, what happens to TV if goes pear shaped?Sometimes you get what you deserve... :cool2:0
