Currys to go bankrupt this week?

  • The day of high street shops is over, especially for expensive items. Currys cannot compete with online retailers. I buy almost everything online other than food and very small items which would cost more in postage. With trends like this, and most young people like me starting to do it more and more, Currys simply cannot continue the way it has. These companies have ripped people off for years and (although I feel bad for staff) it is good to see them crumble.

Im afraid its DFS that Id put money on to go under.

You are correct spike. Instead of spending a frustrating day wandering from shop to shop you can sit here, compare models and prices and buy in half an hour.

I heard from a source close to Currys that they are going to go bankrupt even before xmas. They have posted underlying losses of almost £30m in the 24 weeks to October 18 and have also problems with the insurers.

Anyone heard this news? Or has any info? thanks

Well they didn't go bust this week. Perhaps next week.

Blimey, not much desperation oop t'norf - was in town tonight and a few national chains already mentioned in this thread had "dissuaders"** stationed on the doors 10 mins before (still normal) closing time. Still, I'm sure Aldi and Asda appreciated the extra few quid.

** normally junior assistant saying "sorry we're closing soon, just letting people out".

I wondered about them, because of the angry response by their chairman to a motoring incident. He put his thumbs in the eyes of offending driver!
    Perhaps he has other worries?

Maybe both are going bust. It doesn't seem to be a silly notion to me.

I had an accident with my laptop recently, and my insurer gave me vouchers to spend in Curry's or PCWorld to replace it. I'm not in a hurry and was going to leave it until after Christmas. Should I rush out and spend the vouchers quickly before the chain goes bust? Or will there be plenty of time to buy stuff - I mean if they do go bust, presumably they'll need to sell off stock anyway, won't they? Advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)

IIRC their sale starts on Christmas Eve so you can probably bag a bargain in good time.

I've got £10 of Argos vouchers. How can I hedge the credit risk?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
