Sadly, AA seem to have pulled the sitedown that allowed you to add miles to your aadvantage account (in the UK anyway) and keep your miles ticking over.

However, from the AA site at the weekend, it looks like they are about to launch a credit card with a new partner, so it is one to keep an eye on. The previous card with Citi bank gave you a not very generous 5000 'free' miles for signing upand a mile per each £ spent, fingers crossed that the new one is a bit more generous.

The new card is out today

Pity it's an AMEX by MBNA but at least I can now start earning some AA miles

    Link to application

Spend £250 miles within 90 days to get 5,000 miles.

Earn 3 miles per £1.00 on fuel and shopping for the first 6 months.

Earn 1.5 mile per £1.00 otherwise.

That's a pity it is an Amex. 2 reasons, we already have a VS amex so can't apply for another one, and the other reason is that no one takes the bloody thing!!!!!
Also check the small print, if it is anything like the VS Amex if you do not pay off the card in full, not only do they charge you interest for that month, but even if you then pay it off they try and charge you interest for the following month as well. Yes that would be the month following when you have already paid off the card!!
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

    You can:j

I have a VS AMEX and have successfully applied and got this AA Amex

My wife has a MBNA BMI Mc and the Virgin AMEX and her app was successful too. (Had to ring them to alter her Credit limit on the VS Amex).

I agree with the lack of merchants actually accepting the thing, though it's not too bad:cool:

Will give it a go then. I remember in the past being refused a card because we already had one of the sister ones in the MBNA family.

  • A quick update for anyone who this applies to.

Amex/MBNA/American Airlines will now give you 10000 miles for signing up for the credit card (rather than the 5000 miles that they gave me a fortnight ago when I applied for mine :(;)).

& with you only needing 40000 miles to get a freeflight to ANYWHERE in America, including Hawaii, its an astonishingly generous promotion.

Had the email from them today offering me one and 10 seconds of filling it in, approved. (already have MBNA Visa and an Amex card - so worried they wouldn't approve it, but no problemo)

Will top up the airmiles nicely!

I don't suppose you fancy donating any of your (ill gotten :D:o:p) AAairmiles to a AAmileage impoverished Cat, do you.

Thought not, but it doesn't harm to ask :rotfl::)
  • Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can help me please? I am thinking of applying for a credit card which offers airmiles and have seen the posts regarding the AAdvantage card by MBNA. Does anyone know 1) do the airmiles expire if you keep using the card? and 2) are taxes payable in addition to the miles prices quoted? Also, what is the availability like during school holidays? Would there be any flights available say for 4 people to Orlando in August or is that just wishful thinking? Any help would be appreciated!
