its pretty good for the price. not stunningly good, but pretty good. if you keep an eye on https://www.dell.co.uk/outlet you should be able to pick up a 1.4Ghz Dell 6000 for around £440 delivered - full price on the 1.6Ghz 6000 is around £690. its a much nicer machine.
There will always be a better deal down the line, BUT if you need a laptop right now, you have to weigh up whats available right now.
the thing i like about dells is they are widely known. if down the line you decide you don't need it or want to upgrade there is a healthy market for them on ebay. i bought a laptop on dell outlet, used it for six months and sold it on ebay and broke even on it...0 -
Probably not from people who know what they're talking about. Sorry to be frank but I just have to assure there's nothing *wrong* with a celeron chip.Bacon_Sandwich wrote:not bad but i have heard nothing but bad things about the celeron chips!
Okay, if you're into high end gaming, lots of code compilation, video editing etc then maybe they aren't the thing for you - but criticising merely because they aren't the fastest processors in the world is a little silly.
News for the world - you don't need the fastest processor available.0 -
Celerons are ok for general use like web browsing etc, and a smaller size screen is ideal if you are consdering take it around with you.
Personally i would have prefered extra ram and a dvd writer for it to tempt me but i guess i dont really need one yet so can wait for a real bargain but if you are after a cheap laptop its not a bad price. Oh and dont forget to go through quidco for an extra £16.50 off (more if buy from business site).0 -

Have to agree, we where surfing the net back in 1995 on windows 95 machines with pentium 233 chips. Processor speed on laptop is not really the main issue. Biggest issues are size & battery life. You cn have the fastest processor in the world but it will be no good on the train with a flat battery ;-)
As for wireless internet mentioned earlier on in the thread. Yes you will need a router & broadband at home, however as this website is about moneysaving, you can always connect up to a free starbucks connection in your town centre & there are plenty of unsecure home wireless networks around. i know around my home there are at least 3 I can log onto & use from home, which is always handy when my NTl goes downhill ;-(
