Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help me, tonight I have put my washing machine on and it is making a funny noise and has sparks coming from underneath,( like a man using a welding gun) those kind of sparks.

omg switch it offffffff!!!!!
Unplug and do not touch it, let it cool down and then try to get a plumber, may be tha motor, that happened to me once and it cost me £35 and a very nice man came and fixed it.
Q. How old is your machine?Proud to be me, proud to be who I am!!0 -
had it a couple of years,
bought it off a friend, had to change the bushes a couple of months ago,
but has been working fine until now.0 -
ummmm, I think it may be time for a new one, just checked with the guy from next door. He's ever such a nice person, and a plumber!!! He says you need to make sure that it can be disposed of safely and ask someone nice to fifnish the load of washing for you and buy a new one... do not waste time getting a plumber in..

thank you angeluk69 . you have been most helpful
bushes are metal things that run somewhere underneath or at the side that help turn the drum. I think that is right not very good at these sort of things.0 -
Just thinking of your safety my friend... now where did I leave my Supersuit?Proud to be me, proud to be who I am!!0

A replacement motor, and that's what it needs, costs a whole lot less than a new machine. If your machine is otherwise in fair to good condition it is worth the repair.
Brushes are blocks of carbon that carry electricity from one part of the motor to another - and they wear out. Sometimes if caught early enough so that they haven't damaged anything they can be replaced and the motor will be fine.
If you decide on the repair you need to look up Washing Machine Repairs or Domestic Appliance Repairs in your yellow pages or Thompson's.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Who changed the bushes? Could be that they have just burned out again, sometimes happens if they have not been put in correctly, the sparks could be where the bushes are only just touching the spinning bit of the motor, where as normally they would have good contact. COuld also be the pump if it is coming from underneath, But my bet would be the bushes. (I am not a reapir man, just have fixed allot of my own Washing Machines)0

my partner changed the bushes , when we moved the machine we found a bits of metal, so will check them first too see if that is the problem0

Having got through numerous sets of these in my lifetime I would agree.
Were the set that were changed the correct ones for the machine. In an emergency once my hubby used some he had taken off a different motor at work. He managed to get the machine working again but these were softer than the proper ones and wore out within weeks. Luckily by then we had got the right ones and he changed them again.
My machines always make a noise when the bushes are on their way out. We have learnt to recognise it now and get replacement straightaway.0
