I then got my final bill today for my gas...£1047.56...
Why were British Gas allowing me to just carry on paying the £35 a month when i was with them if i was in this much debit!
Unless you have used £1152.56 in the last few months, you must have had an idea that you were behind when that last bill came in.
If you have used £1152.56 in the last few months you have bigger problems to come.0 -
From 35 to 64 to 234 per month, in 5 months.. How can they even claim such !!!!!! from a single person living in one roomed flat? I know its cold in scotland, but ya know.. I even watch what I use, and im not a waster. Ive written many many times to Eon telling them I cant afford this and that the raise has been unfair.. I have had no luck.. Even writing to the director just comes back with figures of my account, but with no actual reasonable way to resolve the issue.. They have no compassion, and I feel like they tricked me into taking an account with them in the first place! If my account was in credit, Id be gone.Only Linux make is possible!0

I am confused. Are the figures wrong or do you just not want to pay for what you have used? You have stated your account is not in credit. If you can't afford the power do not use it. If you have used it, who else should pay for it?0 -

I never stated I use all this power, did I?. its the direct debits that's gone up, and e.on refuse to even consider my personal circumstances, so i am stuck. I also never stated Id refuse to pay!.. So whats confusing.. this thread is for DD's going up and getting help to making them fair again - as far as I was aware :POnly Linux make is possible!0 -

So how many kwh of gas and electricity have you used in 5 months? Kim's point is that if your DD was correct, you'd be in credit now. You've obviously being paying too little, but maybe £234 a month is too high? You can't tell without knowing how many kwh you're using every month.0 -

Yes you did. You stated: "If my account was in credit, Id be gone." There's the confusion.0 -
In 2007 I changed suppliers to have duel fuel with NPower. After the 1st qtr I was with them I received a bill for over £500...I was horrified but rang them and they said it could be paid on a monthly DD at £75pm. I signed up to their paperless billing for extra discount too. I have never received an email with a bill or a paper bill for about a year. Then in January I noticed my monthly DD had shot up from £75 to £275!! When I rang them, they said they sent me a paper bill, which I have never received, but reduced the monthly DD to £151..still not good. I have since rung them 3 more times to request a copy of the bill, and still not received it. Given that they claim they sent the original bill on the 9th Dec (all Xmas cards & other bills received ok) and that they say they sent another copy in Jan (not received, another copy being sent last week now) do I have a case for compensation, given the fact they did not give me 10days notice as the DD mandate says they must?0

While listening to the radio this morning I heard that people who have prepayment meters have been overcharged. We changed recently to a contract meter because I was sure we were being overcharged for years. Is there a way to claim this money back?0

This thread is about Direct Debits and credit meters. You may have better luck with this thread.0

Scottish Power notified me today that they are increasing my DD from £47 to £100, despite my bills being less than £30 a month and my account having constantly been in credit (currently £67).
Does anyone else think this is unreasonable, especially as it's not as if it's winter or anything!
I have emailed them but no reply yet so I'm tempted to switch supplier again.0
