I have several current accounts (Halifax, Co-op, Natwest, Nationwide, Lloyds, Barclays, HSBC ... etc) and as many savings accounts (YBS ...etc).

Reason being is so I can test the application process and online, telephone, branch banking ...etc. ;)

NatWest 1st Reserve comes with a Solo card :D

... as well as an interest rate of 0.30% gross (no, that is not a typo!), so I wouldn't want to keep much in the way of savings in there!

But it is possible to get cashcards with savings accounts that have reasonable rates, e.g. Bank of Scotland IASA, 3%.
  • every savings account I open I find myself getting yet another current account with it because it's the only way to get online access to the savings account (mostly so I can keep an eye on the money in there, see that it's getting in OK and tracking interest).

  • Ok, so I want an account that I have instant access to (switch card), and a reasonable interest rate as there will be a fair amount of money in it.

What account do I go for? Current or is there a decent savings account with no penalties?

  • I have 3 different savings a/cs; two for me and one joint with other half. " of these have online access; Yorkshire BS and Virgin.

I only have 1 current a/c and am curious to know why it would be necessary to have as many as 7 !!! Maybe you have lotsa cash :)
