The thinking is the other way round: You don't lose £10, you get double for the first year.

Nevertheless they still need to be clothed etc. Don't want to get into a "benefit" debate but single parents or people living on benefits don't suddenly get their benefits cut when their children reach one so why should we?

I'm on benefits and they have been cut actually.

I tried to think of it as getting a bonus (i.e. double) until he was one and then onto the normal rate iykwim, as thats really what it is. Kind of the same thinking as PasturesNew :).

Do they not require nappies and baby milk etc etc??
On a MSE note, real nappies solve the nappy cost problem (beg, borrow them from others or freecycle etc) and my DS was breastfed until 13 months followed by cows milk, so that reduced the cost of milk too (I know some mums don't breastfeed but by 1 the baby/toddler can go onto normal full fat cows milk which is cheaper than baby formula surely). Being a mum to a toddler I realise the costs that can be involved but imho many people spend much more than they need to on a LO!

Encouragement always works better than judgement.

  • Agree with you orkneystar. Plus one year olds are not using as many nappies as a newborn and clothes last longer than a week before being outgrown..lol.

i think one year old is old enough to be receiving double ctc.
