Totally correct, you get double basic rate for having a child under the age of 1.
    (£1090/year instead of £545)

Afraid so, they do it to everyone once the child reaches one. x
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx
  • I recently called them to inform them of changes, OH's wage more than halved and my wage also half of what it was previously, imagine my shock when I received my new notice that also my CTC had halved too! Why? because my child has turned one!! I rang them over it and asked them why this is? At one year old are they earning? Do they not require nappies and baby milk etc etc?? As you can imagine I got no response.

IMO hard working families are just forgotten about in this country.

If anything I actually agree with you, at 1, children still need extras, they should keep it to the child is 2, as 90% of children are on toilet training, and eating our food. x

Nevertheless they still need to be clothed etc. Don't want to get into a "benefit" debate but single parents or people living on benefits don't suddenly get their benefits cut when their children reach one so why should we?

My husband is self employed (building industry) and this week he has earned nothing! All we have is my £100 wage, I called them and explained this, how the hell do they expect people to get by? Gordon Brown harps on about child poverty! Problem is he's peering into the wrong places! Like I said, we're just left to struggle on, no help or anything.

    Sorry.............rant over. :o

Everyone loses the £10 p/w when the child reaches a year old.

everyone in the country can claim CTC (apart from some really high earners) and loses £10 p/w once the child turns a year old.
Maybe if £10 makes such a big difference a week then you should have though about and researched all that before hand.

Its annoying when people pull the single parents/people on benefits get everything. I go out working and im a single parent. Did I complain when I dropped the £10? No! I looked at my incomings and outgoings and adjusted it accordingly.

anyone on benefits face the same £10 cut when there child becomes 1. Ok your husband earnt nothing this week, but other weeks Im sure he earns a lot more than the amount someone on benefits gets.

They do get their benefits cut. They get CTC the same as you. They therefore get them cut the same as you.

As for your husband not having any work this week and how do you get by? I've not had any work for 6 weeks and I'm managing with a family of four, despite losing £600 a week. When I was self employed, it was quite common to have next to nothing at all from November to March. Difference is, it would appear, that I didn't spend all of my invoices as soon as I got paid them.

Perhaps your husband should've learned to manage his business income better if £10 a week is such a big deal.
  • To be fair I think hitchins meant there benefits and not the ctc.
