It doesn't take you to the "main site" - the address remains allianceleicestersucks dot com so it's a different site which looks exactly like the main A&L site. Whether or not it's actually dodgey is hard to tell, but don't trust it regardless. Always put in the correct url to the secure site you want to access to minimise the risks :)

Both Domains are registered to the same address. A weird Domain to secure.

It is not weird it makes complete sense.

They are not the only UK company that has done exactly the same thing, ScottishPower certainly have.

It became very popular in the US to set up site with those types of names to put up derogatory information about the company so the companies started buying up those domain names themselves.

    Thanks everyone for your comments
I believe their main site is:

    https://www.alliance-leicester.co.uk

which confusingly has a hypen in the name unlike the sites mluton mentions, and also there is a typo on the main page under "credit cards", they spelt Leicester as Liecester (which would be an indicator of a fake site)!

I think they will probably have a few variations on their URL to make sure no one "steals" their identity and they have to litigate to get the site closed down.

The wrong spelling of Leicester is probably down to the person who created the webpage making a typo, I think they read this website and I am sure if you keep an eye on it it will probably be fixed fairly quickly.
