How much would it cost to get a textured ceiling smoothed over?

Hi,
Just a quick question I hope someone can give me a ballpark figure for. We've got horrible textured artex on our kitchen ceiling which I'd really like smoothed over. It's only a small kitchen, about 3m square at a guess. Do I need a plasterer to do this? Would really appreciate an approximate cost as I don't want to bother ringing around for quotes if it's more than we can afford! Thanks.

We had our living room artex ceiling plastered over not too long ago. The room is about 20' x 15' and it cost £70 cash (we probably received a small discount, it was a friend of a friend of a friend...)0

Yes I think they must have been quoting a job 10 - 15 yrs ago as that is a big room!!! LOL. It ain't easy and something that can be DIY done and even with materials that size room - what the guy was charging £50 for work - maybe in the 80s lol. Complete BS IMHO unless he lives in the Eastern block.
We recently paid £240 for a 30M2 ARTEX ceiling gone and a bit of other work about 33m2. It was all our budget could stretch to. And that ain't all that cheap m2. I would have rather paid a bit extra and got a perfect job in all honesty.
Jason S has been helpful when I have asked questions and would have rather got someone proud of their finish but cost a bit more.
Don't know the guy, but he is on a MS website and has been helpful for free, advice for me, so ... I don't know!! £70 for the job u said seems ridiculous to me lol!!0 -

Yes - this is my 2nd post LOL - keep that in mind!! Personally I wouldn't trust anyone with under 30 posts as it is too easy to spam.
This guys post is BS have no doubt0 -
Be very careful!
It's not a DIY job I suggest you ask for recommends rather than yellow pages pin stick selection.
Having a job done like that isn't only about the cost - Plastering is a very messy job even done by careful professionals and you need to be prepared for a lot of dust.
I've had plastering done by 'not so cheap & cheerful' and also by very good clean & tidy workers but in both cases the dust was horrendous so make sure you really really want it done first.
Good Luck!0 -
We had same, and used a steam wallpaper stripper to remove it and painted over with a heavy based emulsion0
