T-Mobile £10 SIM Replacement Admin Fee!
In this day of Free SIM Card offers, I was shocked to find that T-Mobile charge £10 for an admin fee to replace your lost or stolen SIM Card, whether you order it over the phone via Customer Service or go into a T-Mobile shop
Now, I know the moral of the story is to not lose your phone but bearing in mind O2 replacing SIMs completely free (not sure about the other networks) it’s a little lumpy to suggest it’s admin! For those quick thinkers I did cover the possible solutions:
1. Well, before I established this wouldn’t work I did ask the question of whether me getting the SIM in store would mean it’s free as there surely can’t be the same kind of admin within store? Still £10!
2. If I get one of the many free SIMs that T-Mobile issue and then transfer my old number across would I escape the charge? No, they can’t do for a reason I didn’t quite understand, but it involved the number being tied to that account.
The craziest thing about this is that being on the no ties contract (without phone) means I could leave as quickly as I joined… having left I could then sign up AGAIN, creating even more admin work beyond leaving and get it all for free!
Anyone else had experience with T-Mobile and their £10 Admin Fee? Having searched for it all I appear to be one of only two people peeved about this

Ask T-Mobile for a PAC, then choose another network, taking your number with you free of charge.
What I don't understand is why you would ever consider going back to them.RIP independent MSE.

I would guess the charge it cover the cost of (a) cancelling the original SIM (holding your number) and (b) transferring you number from the 'missing' SIM to your new one.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Is it worth £10 for you to keep your old number?
If it is - pay up. If it is not - take your business elsewhere.
It's not rocket science!0 -
I was suprised by this as it happened to me, it was a PAYG phone, however there was only 20p credit left on the sim.
In the end I thought as I needed to get a new phone it will come with a new sim anyway and I ended up going with orange. To be honest I dont think there is much difference between the mobile companies as they all do offers if you top up £10 and magic numbers etc so it was T mobiles loss.
If there had been more than £10 on the sim I may have considered paying, and if on a contract with cashback i guess you may not have a choice, but for me I got some free text messages to tell people my new number!!.:j0 -
main reason i left them my son's phone was stolen and still in contract so no choice had to pay
now O2 getting his/MY:D money and he is happy:jHonesty is the best policy doesn't matter which web site

Thats just cheeky, everytime I upgrade from CPW-O2 I get them to send me a new simcard as the amount of times I take it out and put it back inside different phones wears it out. And it's free replacement, and I just ring them up and they activate the new simcard in no time.0 -
o2 replace the sim card in a lost/stolen phone the first time free of charge, after that you pay.

O2 do not replace simcard in lost / stolen phone the first time free of charge, after that you pay, they do it after the first time as well. I think if you like lose one every day they might after the 4th one say "sorry buddy we have to charge you a small admin fee." Which I think is fine, but if you lose it like one every 1 or 2 its not.0

No, they don't, I work for o2 and we replace the first one F.O.C. If a customer service rep asks you to pay and it's the first time, challenge it.
