Christmas Day Starter

  • We have fortune cookies - the ones Mr Tings takeaway give you for free if your order (i.e. our Christmas day main course) comes to over £15
  • Twice baked souffle - I did a parsnip and stilton one the other year - mislaid the recipe though. Delia has a twice baked goats cheese souffle online.

Best thing is that you prepare and cook in advance and freeze, then defrost and pop on baking tray and cook again for about 20-30 mins before serving.
  • Why have a starter before the biggest meal of the year? We never do- just save room for all the lovely roast potatoes....mmmmm
:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator :p
  • I used to do a fan of melon with summer berries (hint i used frozen berries from the supermarket and defrosted them with a sprinkle of sugar) which is light and can be made in advance.
This year i'm making spicey butternut squash soup. Its quite cheap and easy to make. I can make it beforehand its something a bit spicey for a change.

None of us like Melon so what other fruits would be best to serve up as a starter? My Nan is coming this year and I would really like to impress her ;)

  • Sadly we got bullied into it for our first Christmas in our new home 2 years ago :o Long story...won't bore you with it...but in retaliation now we do 4
(I myself would rather do without...huge meal anyway...plus pudding !but have greedy BIL&SIL  )

This year we are having : Breaded Mushrooms/breaded mini camembert with garlic mayo dip, Pate with cumberland sauce, Garlic bread (for nephew), and filo prawns with sweet chilli dip.

That should keep them all happy :j
  • im going to be really lazy and buy 2 prawn rings and butter some brown bread!

Not tried these myself but what about some kind of avacado salad or some goats cheese and apple in salad?? I'm sure googling fruit starters would come up with some ideas.
