Christmas Day Starter

So, I am sat here trying to do a menu plan for Christmas and I have decided that I am sooooo bored of doing tomato soup and prawn cocktail for starters for christmas day so any of you people have any exciting suggestions???
Thanks in advance!

the other year we had king prawns, mussels, avocado, smoked salmon, and crab all laid out buffet style on the table, so we could all help ourselves. It was lovely, only problem was we didn't fancy the big roast dinner afterwards. So this year we are going to have the same but have a bigger gap between starter and main meal.

One of my favourite starters which always goes down well are cooked puff pastry tarts which are then filled with caramelised red onion and goats cheese then grilled to warm & soften the goats cheese. Delicious!!

My OH does something very similar to this but on ciabata - it is wonderful. He also does a lovely pea soup.

Oooooh, I made this once and it was gorgeous:

big flat mushrooms, one per person, washed or wiped
    hoummous
smoked cheese, grated, equal amount to the hoummous

Mix the hoummous and the cheese, and pile it onto the mushrooms. Put them under a grill until the cheese/hoummous is brownish. You'll need to line the grill with foil. There's dripping.

  • Last year for our Christmas day starter my OH layered some smoked salmon and mozzarella, in individual sized portions, wrapped it in filo pastry and baked. It was lovely but I can't quite remember if we had a sauce with it or not. My personal favourite though is goats cheese wrapped in parma ham, bake for 10 min til the cheese is going gooey then serve with some sun blushed tomatoes :)

Deep Fried Brie; served with a bit of side salad and some cumberland sauce

Egg Mayonaise; about 1 n 1/2 boiled eggs per person (not too filling to keep room for the roast afterwards!)

Melon: simple and easy, also another addition to your 5 a day
    Carla-Farla!! :)

well thats what we have in my house
Love is the answer. At least for most of the questions in my heart,
Like why are we here? And where do we go?And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy,And sometimes life can be deceiving,
I'll tell you one thing, its always better when we're together
