it means it can work on the main 3 frequencies mobile phone networks use, the majority of Europe and Asia use only 2 networks so lots of phones are dualband, North and South America use a 3rd frequency generally so triband phones will work over there too0

Four major frequencies in the world for GSM:
900, 1800, 1900 and 850.
The first two are the most common in the majority of the world (apart from America, Japan and South Korea - Japan and South Korea use a seperate technology from the rest of the world though).
1900 is the mainstay for America.
Some countries are also starting to use 850.
