Hi Tony Hague
I'm intrigued by the 4pm - 8pm query. My laptop slows down and stops basically between 5 - 6pm every day. Is there some specific reason for this?
Thanks

buggins.
Occasionally there can be a different cause, but...usually....it is down to contention, your cheapa$$ ISP does not have enough backhaul (capacity) to serve its subscribers, for those paying a couple of quid a week to talktalk/tipex/aol etc they really can't expect more for the money.
If you think for a moment...around 4pm the kids all come home from school, log on to facebook/youtube etc.., by 8 the younger ones are getting ready for/going to bed, the older ones have just had 4 hours online, so they are slowing down a bit, going out etc..

is the pc still making the deep breath and sticking, even when well ventilated? Take vyseboy's advice, also download ccleaner and...er..clean. Report back

I used the cleaner and it deleted 'IE temporary internet files (1 file) 43 bytes'0

I've just tried installing C4 on demand which was on my pc before it was cleaned and it wouldn't install I got an error message saying 'microsoft.Netframework 2.0 setup' I thought everything would be easier to do once the pc was cleaned..0

I'm with Virgin.net ADSL broadband, and I get this slowing down every evening ... mine can start as early as 3pm and last all evening. As far as I tell, since it works fine at other times of the day, this is just down to Contention because Virgin have not bought enough bandwidth to cope with the number of users who get on the internet after work or school. It's really frustrating.
Ironically, it got even worse a couple of months ago after Virgin emailed me to say my telephone exchange was being upgraded and so I'd get a free upgrade to my speed (I'm on the 2Mbit service). Well the upgrade took place, my modem now says I'm syncing at anything between 6.2Mbit and 4.2 Mbit (the reported syncing gets slower as the day progresses), BUT my real download speed hasn't changed from the previous typical 1790Kbit so I've gained nothing. Oddly my upload speed has shot up to around 600kbit and I'm told that is probably because I've been put on a Cable & Wireless LLU connection.
I don't think it's my imagination, but since this 'upgrade' I'm convinced my connection is even more unreliable in the evenings now. It just grinds to a standstill after 5pm.

Ccleaner won't touch the .net framework, either you didn't have it installed in the first place, or you're installation has been corrupted.
Have you scanned with malwarebytes or superantispyware yet? Use google if you need to find them, free downloads, can uninstall easily once you're done with them. I'm sure it'll find something.
Get .Net framework from here (link at top right) if you need it.Russia is HERE0
