I have just had my computer cleaned and restored back to its original state I was having problems as it was jamming up constantly using the internet. Since I've had it back it is still jamming up constantly on the internet, have checked with broadband provider and they say there are no problems so I wondered if anyone on here had any words of wisdom. Before it was cleaned I downloaded McAfee virus scanner and it took all night to do! Since being cleaned it took about 10 mins to download. Could McAfee cause these problems? or is there something wrong with my pc..
Many thanks

which ISP do you have? can you run a speedtest and post back the results.

are you finding these freezes all the time, or especially 4pm-8pm?Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -
Are you using a wireless or wired connection?“Hardware: The parts of a computer system that can be thrown out of the nearest window!”0

My download speed is 1976 kb/s & upload speed is 187 kb/s and I'm with Virgin. I use a wired connection. My pc keeps making a noise like it's sucking in a really deep breath which lasts quite a lonhg time, usually before it sticks.0

did the person who "cleaned" your PC also clean the inside? either vacuum, or, ideally, use a can of air and blow all the dist away from around they fans, heatsinks, everything.
Does your PC case have a window? if it does, when you next hear the noise, look at the big fan in the middle of the case, probably stuck on the side of a big aluminium block, check that it is still turning quickly.
I hope you are paying virgin for a 2 meg connection, 'cos that's what you are gettingUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -
Don't know if they physically cleaned the inside, but I doubt it. It's a dell laptop, I can't see any window to look. Do you think that this is the problem.0

That noise sounds like the computer fans speeding up because the CPU is under load, most likely due to a virus or malware (although if you can I'd also follow tonyhague's advice and remove any visible dust from the fans / heatspreaders.)
Download malwarebytes and perform a quick scan... (it isn't really that quick...)

ah...laptop....
lift it off the carpet/table/knee, make sure there is plenty of ventilation around it, especially underneath. If you have nothing to hand, I've used the rack from my oven grill before now.
Fixed! That was easy

So you think it maybe overheating then, but I get this problem just after I've logged on so it's hasn't had a chance to get hot. I keep it on a tray on my lap I have to say that my lap does get rather hot after a while , i'll try to keep it ventilated although I don't know how practical this will be.
** The other thing is my @ is where the " is since it's been cleaned, can I get it back working in the right place.
Thanks for all the replies.........0 -
the cpu will reach a high temp after a second or 2, try my suggestion (put the grill tray under the lappy, on the lap tray), if it's fixed, you know the problem, and solution!Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

The " and @ being swapped around means your keyboard is set to US english instead of UK english.
Fix this by going start > settings > control panel > Regional and Language options > Languages tab > Details > then set input language and installed services to English (United Kingdom)
I still think your original slowing down problem is caused by malware, and recommend you do a scan with malwarebytes or superantispyware, to see if anything is found.Russia is HERE0
