Premium Rate Numbers SCAM

I hope this is the right place to post this. and I will try to make this story brief....I changed my home phone earlier this year to Talk Talk. Fine and I pay a set internet usage charge to Tiscali - fine and was very surprised to find my normally £14 monthly bill with Talk Talk to be £42. When I rang them -they said that whilst using my computer a company was logging on to my computer and I was unaware that I had been drumming up charges. On top of that my next bill that I hadn't even received was already £84.
They gave me the name of ICSTIS to complain to and 'apparantly they would re-imburse me. I then phoned ICSTIS and they told me to write to the company ( QUIZIR SL in Spain ) to claim my costs - I did and surprisingly !! Have had no reply. No one will take the blame and no one has any interest and they all know it happens - Surely someone can help me out - I can't afford to loose so much money when I spend so much time try to save it !! It makes me feel sick that this can happen and very vunerable using the net.

Here's a bit of good news for you - I've just received a credit to my bank account of £50 from Quizir following a dial up scam.

It did take a while to come through so hopefully you will have the same result eventually.

I got all my responses via email so it may be worth contacting them again and ensuring they have your email address. :)

    Hi everyone

You can install this FREE programme on your computer to stop this happening

    http://www.softbulldog.com/dialerzapper/

Whenever a connection is made from your computer a dialogue box pops up. You have to click on the box to allow the connection. If you don't the connection is automatically terminated after a short time that you decide. This at least limits the amount that you will be charged to the minimum.

If you have broadband you can also disable your internal dial-up modem so that it cannot be used to dial out.

    cheers

  • Thanks - Jane do you have their e-mail as I was only given a brief address. That is very good news and I have also put a ban on my premium rate numbers.( although it stops me voting for The X Factor !!)
