also we dont want a huge wedding, and we would like to donate the money we would of spent on a wedding to newcastle rvi hospital where my little girl was born. they were great as she was in special care and was in for 9weeks i stayed in a place called crawford house its charity run and we would like to show our appriciation to them by giving them a lil bit back. so every bit of info we get etc is making money for the hospital.

Get a letter from the charity confirming that you're doing this and go round places asking for free stuff. You'd be surprised what you can get this way. You could offer to have signs up thanking donating companies for their generosity, given that guests and staff will see these signs it's good publicity. You could also speak to the local newspaper and see if they'd be interested in this story, it's heart warming, local, human interest etc.

    Great idea Ianna!

Oh and big congratulations to you Tilly!:lovethougI know this sounds obvious but I've heard of so many rows of invites to weddings. Invite only who YOU and your fiance want at the wedding, not aunts and uncles you haven't seen in donkeys years, neighbours you'd barely talk to, friends of your parents etc etc. Only invite the ones who you really want to be there and love. That way you're not spending loads of money on food for people that you feel you should invite but really don't need to. All that matters is you, your husband and kids its your day don't let anyone else take it over.

Best of luck and big hugs xxxxx

  • Hi - try entering as many competitions as you can! I won a few small bits. Here's one I just posted earlier actually - in case you want to try and win some shoes!

  • If you want a small, intimate meal, find out if any local restaurants have a private dining room - there is one near me that doesn't charge and seats up to 18 people. They don't charge extra for using it, and might even put on a set menu that's cheaper than a la carte. If guests know that money is an issue, perhaps they might be willing to pay for their own meals?

Also, I noticed Tesco's were selling a large pink Mr Kipling French Fancy (about 6 inches square) for under £7. This would work well as the top tier of a wedding cake, and for the other tiers, you could buy a variety of other little cakes. This would definitely work well if you just had a 'tea, cakes and sandwiches' reception after your wedding in a local hall.

If you do want favours, this is what I did for my wedding 4 months ago: I bulk bought jelly beans and served them in plastic shot glasses which I got for £1.25 per 25. I wrapped these in cellophane and curled some ribbon on it. Worked out very cheap and none were left at the end of the party!

Best of luck for your wedding!

 hi my b/f asked me to marry him yesterday.... only thing is we skint and i have 2 kids age !!4and 4months}.... do you know where we can get free wedding stuff?? anything will be a great help.
    hi TM

Drop me a line here and we can look at doing both the invites (if you haven't already), and a possible Order of Sevice (OoS). Im a webdesigner in theory, but also turn my hand to invites and the like. If we can agree this is what you wanna do, i'm willing (depending on when it is), to confere with yourself, and do the invites and OoS at cost price, which bascially is cost of the card.

We have a Papermill Shop VERY close by and this is where I get all my card from. A full box (as of last week), cost £4.87 but it is great, as you can mix and match colours and sizes. You'll be looking at £20 VERY MAX for card/ink and my time.

I used to work for the charity that cares for the Special Baby Care Unit @ the Newcastle RVI, so know how important it is, the work that they do. all donates they receive make a massive difference no matter how small!

This is my present to you, and actually came across this thread, looking for Havester posts lol .. Why not drop me a PM hun

  • HI I am currently planning my wedding for next year and we are looking at around £4000 max.

My dress i got in the sale from £1400 to £300. We are getting married in the church then having a sit down meal and reception at the local rugby club. The hire venue for the hall is £300 and we managed to get a good price for the food - £15 per head for 4 course meal and £4 per head buffet. We did negotiate that price. The balloons we are going to do our self as there is a cash and carry balloon place in kent which sells them at basic price and we can hire a elium canister for the month for £75.
As for invites we used a site called vista print. You may have to spend a long time search for a design suitable but they are quite cheap and they do not look tacky either. I brought extra stuff from them as they sent me emails for other free stuff.
I am getting a mate to do my hair (with plenty of practise it is possible.

The rest you just need to look around. Bargain for a decent price and I went to a few wedding fairs as well to get ideas for myself.

    TillyMay...

do you have an update on your big day hunny xx
  • Hi, i've found a couple of young girls who are just starting their own photography business. They were offerin free 'shots' to get their names out and about and i got them to do some of my kids. They were brilliant, very natural. I dont wanna be standing around posing so asked them to do our photo's. I'm paying them £500 and getting a large photo book, a photo on canvas, and the cd with all the photo's on so i can print which ones i like. They are also staying with us for the full day so we get eveing shots too.
