  • also we dont want a huge wedding, and we would like to donate the money we would of spent on a wedding to newcastle rvi hospital where my little girl was born. they were great as she was in special care and was in for 9weeks i stayed in a place called crawford house its charity run and we would like to show our appriciation to them by giving them a lil bit back. so every bit of info we get etc is making money for the hospital.
  • if you contact companies that make wedding cards they normally send out samples (i got loads of blank 1s) as well as some which had joe blogs name and date. so if you dont mind people getting different invites, could save you money.

go to this forum, http://www.weddingpath.co.uk/ they are really friendly and helpful. i made some lovely friends on ther when planning my wedding in 2006 and i am still in regular contact - i even went to 1 of the ladies weddings.

  • we did the invite thing we just got samples for free we both ordered and we then made the inserts on computer on coloured paper and cut to fit each card and brought envelopes works out so much cheaper and no-one noticed or at least didnt comment on having different invites.

we also got free whisky minatures, choc bars and min perfume bottles as favours you just have to write to lots of companies and ask just put in the letter something about a good way of promoting their product, be aware we wrote to 30 plus companies and only 3 gave us things.

For the reception why not do a buffet in which all guests bring along a savoury and a sweet? We have been to one of these and it was LOVELY!!!! The wedding cake was a centrepiece mountain of profiteroles...mmmm!

    edit:

A lot of halls have a bar too which makes it cheaper to hire (and cheaper to host an event!).

Why not just have a registry office wedding, with a couple of close friends/relatives? Forgo the "we've got to feed our guests" thing and buy in a cheap buffet, skim past "I've got to have an expensive wedding dress" and buy something nice but inexpensive in the debenhams sale, and you'll be married for less than a grand :)

(Then donate the other £6000 or so)
  • hi tilly may just a few ideas that i did for my own wedding

    ebay dress £50
3 celebration cakes from tesco decorated by a friend .bare cakes cost less than £30. paid extra for decoration you could just use flowers
hiring a hall the bar was free
bucks fizz for toast and a spitzer for going in kept drinks light as summer wedding also most people driving
    invitations were bought off ebay
i printed order of service on computer
  • Try asking on freecycle for the things you need :)

This is such a good idea tilly. At the end of the day it is about you making vows to to love each other and be there for each other forever, not about a fancy schmancy dress and a posh venue.

If your friends and family love you they'll be delighted to share the special moment with you wherever. And you can leave a subtle collection box for your charity somewhere.

Remember, it's about the rest of your lives, not just one day.

Good luck with it all

We saved money on our wedding by asking my husbands works chaplain to marry us in a local hotel as we wanted a minister but not a big church do. Hotel didn't charge for room hire and minister would only accept a £30 book token (tho it was 16 yrs ago now!)

A friend with a white Volvo asked me if she could drive me to the venue when she heard we weren't having cars. She went all out with the ribbon on the front and the white sheet and flowers in the back. You could ask someone you know with a nice car to do the same.

Another friend offered to make our cake for the price of the ingredients as long as I promoted her brand new cake making business. I passed out tiny photos of my cake with her details on them (she made those too) to all friends, workmates etc.

Other thing is when ordering flowers or photos walk in and say I've got a budget of £xxxx what can you offer me? This worked for me and we got more for a better price than some people I know. The photographer said I could have an album with 20 photos in it if I got proofs and chose them myself, but I could have 30 if he chose them. I could have changed any choices at the end that I wasn't happy with but he's really the best person to choose and I never changed any.

When it comes to favours....don't do it! It's a huuuge waste of money. I was at a wedding in the summer and on each table was a small sheet of paper saying that the bride and groom were donating the money they would've spent on favours to xxxx charity.

Wedding dresses......mine was hired, I didn't intend to hire but they said in the shop that as they didn't have my size in stock they would need to get in a new one so I was first to wear it.

Hope this might have helped....and good luck with everything, keep us posted as to how you're getting on!
You'll make my day if I know I've been helpful to you in some small way,
so please press my :T thanks :Tbutton x
