Kenwood Frothie- What a heap of junk!

Bought a Kenwood Frothie for xmas. What a heap of junk. Anyone else had problems? These are mine.

1/ First one kept tripping the RCD so took it back to get a new one.
2/ The machine doesn't heat the coffee enough. Try and switch it straight back on and it will not allow.
3/ No froth comes out the tap until you get to the last drop so you have to share the drink between the cups and then put them all back under the tap again to share the froth! Bit of a juggling act, good job its not very hot!
4/ Very difficult to get the froth out the tap. This is because it is spread across the bottom of the jug and a little bit like trying to turn a plate of bubbles upside down and they don't run!
5/ Try tipping the machine to put the tap down low to encourage the froth to run and the machine stuck to the work surface via suction pads!
6/ Lets forget the tap and use the jug itself to pour it. The spout is on the same side as the tap so when your pour the tap fills up with the froth and you can't get it out.
7/ The heat switch is a bit dodgy and sometimes doen't work.

All in all it is an ill thought out heap of junk. I will be taking mine back for a refund!

    Hi Andrew,

I don't have one, so I can't comment, but here is a link to the reviews on amazon. Most seem to be happy with it but some have had problems.

    some people are easily pleased!
you only have to look at the picture to understand that items 3, 4, 5, 6 are true. Items 1, 2 and 7 may be problems with my particular machine.
One of the amazon reviews does acknowledge one of the problems in my list where someone resulted to a spoon to get the froth out!

Well, your thread has entertained me. So, it's a bit of "lifestyle" junk that doesn't really work then?
    Happy chappy

ive had one since october and i love it !!!!!!!!!oops! however at christmas my sister got one and she has mentioned a problem heating it up to so maybe there is a faulty batch out there!!!!who knows? hers is working fine again now!
i dont if it helps but what i do is press heat and mix button let it go for ages until it stops itself! very noisy i know especially when ive 2 toddlers in bed!!!!!!then press the frothy button and pour with the frothy button still on and it should froth as it pours otherwise yours must be faulty!!!!!!! tilt cup like your puring a pint! i bet they rushed em out the factory for christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    try hot chocolate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I dunno. Years and years I made coffee using various proper coffee machines (in restaurants that is) and I ballsed up on a regular basis. Those machines cost £1000s. So I reckon that if you can make a half decent jug of froth using a machine costing under a hundred squids then you're doing OK. Tis a rare person BTW that can make a jug of froth that is fluffy yet *pours*.
Having said all of that, the coffee's the thing not the froth and imo cafe coffee is best left to Gaggias in cafes (tonight's tongue-twister folks!) and home coffee is best made in a cafetiere or stove top job. Frothjy hot chocolate sounds good though.... :)

I've been thinking of getting one because I love frothy coffee. Thanks for your views on them.

I got one for christmas and have to say i expected more froth. But i found out by reading the recipe book that all the recipes have been designed by using full cream milk. I bought one pint of it and it did make a difference.

Hot choccie is yummy in it though!!!

i never gave it a thought but your right i use full cream milk anyway cos that is what my milkman has delivered me for years that is perhaps why mine is really frothie! i wouldnt have noticed that bit in the recipe book because fullcream milk is all we have!!!!!!!!!!!! and yes get making the hot chocolates!!!!!!they are perfect! the frothies here are so frothie that you may feel the need to get your finger round the cup at the end or spoon it from the edges of cup cos it leaves a layer of froth around cup when youve drunk it all!!!!!

Just found this thread. I got one for Christmas and had to take it back for a refund due to it cutting all my lights and tv etc. whenever I turned it one. Think it was due to the fact that the jug didn't come away from the electrical plug in bit - so you couldn't wash it without the connection getting wet. Bad design in my opinion. OH banned me from getting another so I bought a dancemat instead! Loads healthier!!
