  • Have you seen the prices these cards go for on ebay..hardly moneysaving...Most of these cards probably go where the sun shines hot and then lots of sangria to cool you down.;)
Yes they are a rip off, but the question was 'where can i buy one online'!

Well folks, that was not very successful :( They needed info that I could not remember (have not needed it for a couple of years now!) so they would not allow me to buy a card
And yes they were anxious for me to restablish a sky package with them again! Is the ebay route the only one for me now :(

I cannot understand why Sky will not sell you a £20 freesat card. Did you obtain the system from them in the first place.

Any way this supplier provides Sky systems to expat and will provide freesat cards that don't need activating by Sky.

    It is for free view!

One problem with this...freeview isn't on the Sky platform, it's a terrestrial broadcast.

There is a 'Freesat' service that is similar to freeview. Slightly more channels but no E4 for free tho (which is best channel on freeview).

Thank you all for your help.
Penrhyn, Sky will sell me one, if I can remember my password and yes I did obtain system from them, many years ago.
Faz, it is channel 4, 5 and all of the other obscure ones that I have lost! Over time the reception just got worse until finally the screen said 'no signal being recieved' Maybe I have got Freesat and Freeview muddled?
    Confused Carmen x

If you have just lost the channels, then it's poss that either box is corrupt or broken. if the s/ware in the box is corrupt then an update should sort it. However, when freesat came out, the boxes and cards were updated for it so it may be possible that u can't watch anything without a card if u do an update (i can't, i had freesat for a while and still needed the card - assuming that ur not using one). If u have a card already, try an update. Instructions are here: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=135928

(couldn't be bothered to retype the instructions)

    Good luck

I'm not going to say i told you so but you should have accepted the apple pie. Did you know that you can press the thanks button when people give you good and correct info?
There is a web site http://www.wickonline.com/fta.htm that explains things. Basically there's a load of totally free channels called FTA (free to air). Get a £20 card and you can get FTV (free to view). FTV gives 3 more channels than FTA, ch4, 5 and sky3. (Seems a rip-off to me there must be more channels). You can pay extra for all those channels that are blanked out also. They do 6 categories of channels such as kids, knowledge etc. You can pick any mix of this 6. 2 out the six costs £15/month but the'll give you it half price for 6months. They might try and charge a 1 off fee if you don't connect your phone line and have the apple pie! Look on MSE there is lots of discussion about packages and scams you can negotiate.
You can have these packages whether you bought from sky outright or bought it over the 1st years contract and it has become yours. Next time you ring them just say that you've bought your own kit and you want a card and are not interested in any other packages they have to offer. Don't mention that you're previously a customer. This is what went last time!
