Thanks for the links lil_me. I agree that he should put it right at his expense, so hopefully that's what he'll think too! He's got the number of the friend I ordered them through, so hopefully will call him on Monday to sort it out. However, I have got some renovator for old tiles, so I'm going to give it a try.

TBH I just want him to get a move on and finish... it's taken a lot longer than I'd expected (or his wife expected... she's got lists for him at home!), and I'm fed up with the dirt/stuff in the house and garage. He doesn't seem to have worked out how he's going to line the ceiling yet, as its asbestos so he can't drill into it. Personally (although what do I know  ) I would have thought it would be better to have done the ceiling first, and then the walls - surely batons for the ceiling could have been attached to the framework for the walls?

Anyway, the plan is to tell him that he needs to finish on Thursday, and anything that he hasn't done by then will have to wait until I have time for it, so to bill me for what he's done (it was a fixed price job). I want to be able to clean the house up before I go away for Christmas, so need to do it next weekend, as I have a houseful or am away pretty much every weekend from the New Year onwards!

Right... must get something done... I'm going to hoover and wash (with water) the utility room so I can start putting stuff back in the cupboards/freezer etc, and hopefully also at least get the rest of the house done to level 1. Once the utility room is clean I'll do a patch test of the tile renovator and see what happens! Keep your fingers crossed for me :D
my 'common sense' would have made me start with the ceiling too greenbee!!! after all you wouldnt want to be working over / standing on new units floor etc??? would you??? I think not!!!

good for you for giving him a deadline - maybe its the wife's lists that are keeping hin at your house!!!!:rotfl:

  • Evening! All my ironing done up to date and I love my new tumble dryer - it's so quiet. Make me think that my old one was probably not working very well for some time.

DH is still acting like a dying duck in a thunder storm! He said "You don't know how much that hurts!" when he was coughing. I looked at him in astonishment and said "I'm not unsympathetic, but I've been asthmatic for 30 years, had numerous chest infections, let alone the pleurisy recently - I think I probably know more than you!"

DS is being an :A as always. He wouldn't let me do Sainsbugs on my own, and is now cooking tartiflette for dinner.

I'm planning to catch up with writing the rest of my Christmas cards so I can post them on Monday. Last episode of Merlin shortly, too!

Have a good evening, everyone. Hugs all round. x

Triker I'd be tempted to regift some as presents or sell them (the likes of gift sets and perfumes usually sell quite well on ebay this time of year), if you can remember who gave you them, which is usually the problem. I am sure you're not a scruff, just got your own style ;)
Jayjay well done, sounds like you have made great progress
kazm hide the bags, I've known me to declutter kids and DPs stuff and for the stuff to reappear!
Yay OJK having the tree up, not nice that another little one is iffy but at least you are getting it out of the way before Xmas, mine had it Xmas day last year
PF, ((hugs)) that winds me up a treat that they are always more ill than we are! Expect nursemaids when they are ill, take all the pain relief and don't tell you (grrr just found that one out) and then leave you to get on as normal while they feel sorry for themselves....

Woooohooooooo I have dry bed linen, phew! DPs repair has worked so I might have to forgive him for the mess he's left in the sitting room again! Saved me a fortune that has, I will go delete the new one out of my online basket :o

Started using up some of the flour, just the motivation I have an issue with, anyway there is a loaf in the BM and I made the boys pancakes for dinner (also had plenty of eggs, used milk powder rather than fresh milk). Wanted them to have more fruit today (they are useless with veg so have to give them more fruit and they'd not had much so far) so we did banana, raisins and apples in various combos, they've eaten those and now having fruit and yoghurt. I don't think they realised quite how much fruit they were eating :D

I've barely stopped and the house still looks like a bombsite, I need to get sorted if I am going over to see my cousins tomorrow as next week in the diary looks totally manic and is the kids last week before hols. I'm going to go make myself some sort of doable sets of small lists.
One day I might be more organised...........

Hope the G&T reward is enjoyable!!!!

Nice neighbour delighted (and rather surprised!) at receiving it so soon (an extra christmas present for her son) and the G&T tip was definitely enjoyable!

Forgot to mention earlier I've managed to accidently benefit from playing dollar/pound rate futures! The other week when I was sorting out paperwork, I came across some cheques that needed paying in. One of them was from May :o. It was only just over the six months when I sent it off so I hoped it would be honoured.

But, it was returned by the bank today as it had been cancelled because it was out of date. I have a website and have google adsense on it. Every month or so (depending on various factors) I get a cheque from google. Thing is, the earnings are in dollars and they then get converted into a sterling cheque.

The cheque that was not honoured was for $123-ish dollars converted to £62-ish in May. I have had $123-ish credited back to my adsense account. With today's conversion rate, that means when they send it out again, I'll get £84-ish - a nigh on 30% return on the money through having forgotten to pay it in! :rotfl::rotfl:

Soappie, that sounds like it was worth 'forgetting' :D well done even if it was an oopsy, that's even more than the interest would have been in the bank.

Just on the phone to DP who's just told someone to 'have a nice stay' when he dropped them off at the hospital :rotfl: what an oops to make.

Cards list so far, please check and let me know if you have sent them here and not on the list/haven't sent them yet, this is off the top of my head so can double check if necessary, just so I know who's I am expecting (kaz I know about yours)

**rant alert** DS1s getting right on my nerves, bouncing and noise making, sometimes his Autism just gets right on my nerves (usually like now when I have a headache) just making random loud noises, I think I need some ear plugs. Now they are screaming at each other, oh times like this I wonder why I get them anything for Christmas at all, horrid things they are sometimes. **rant over ** :o

That feels better, right, next set of 'to dos' starting with the kitchen

Put away the stuff on the benches that needs to be in the cupboard
Put what needs to be disposed of in bin/recycling
    Wipe over kitchen benches
    Vacuum floor
Empty WM onto airers/in TD and put another load in
Start kids card sorting, see if they can be quiet doing some of that
One day I might be more organised...........

Hugs Lil_me because you rarely moan so it must be getting to you x

Soappie great news on the dollar thing - that is quite a good payout - how long did it take you to get to the original figure? Sounds a good site.

Dinner taking longer to cook than planned so will have to be eaten infront of x factor
