Morning all
N9aev - I disguise some of my tightness by calling it eco-conscousness - friday night I put my work secret santa pressie into one of my many saved gift bags - it wasn't until we gave out the pressies that I realised it had MUM emblazoned across it - the recipient guessed it was from me
I also got some bargainous meat last night - free range chicken breasts yellow stickered to £1 for 2 and 2 lamb shanks also for a quid. dd(19) and dgs(4) coming round for dinner tonight so will have to stretch the shanks out a bit with lots of veggies and some sausages
checked the weather this morning for rain and rushed out to hang out some washing in an OS frenzy - just been to check it and it's frozen - will leave it for a bit longer as I can see a foot square of sunshine creeping towards it.
I'm doing CRISIS again this christmas but they haven't yet disclosed my location. i bit the bullet last night and booked a travelodge room at kings cross - hope my building's not going to be too far from there. Last time I stayed in a hostel dorm which was ..... erm .... interesting so I'm looking forward to some relative luxury.
Well must get on - have a good day allI'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 20080 -
Morning all,
Roast beef cookiing away and DH has done all veg, I can't do peeling at the moment, I tought him how to make yorkshire puds and now he thinks he's a chef. We always get dinner cooked before going to our local for a Sunday lunchtime gathering with friends, catch up on eachothers lives and sort the world out.
I'll be doing more to the swags this afternon, write cards and catch up on some progs we've recorded in front of a blazing log fire.
I'll put some wet white sheets and towels on the line as another heavy frost is forcast tonight. The frost kills all bacteria better than any soap powder, and it's cheaper. I notice such a difference in the whiteness the next morning
Plan to buy the trees on Wednesday, DH dreads it because I have to check every tree before I deceide, just incase the perfect one is hiding at the back of the other 99.
SMOKY, Good to see you posting again but not with the traumas you've been through, hope next week is kinder.
Special hugs and continued prayers for Lesley and Miolier's little one.0 -
Morning all!
Taken ds off to rugby, can't believe they're playing as the pitches are all frozen! Told him to try to avoid the frozen puddles, he just gave me a look! Then whizzed over to Argos to pick up a couple of bits, and argh, my card wasn't approved! Rushed to the cashpoint, amazingly there is plenty of money in there, which makes a change. So I'm guessing that the bank have stopped it due to all the big internet purchases I've done lately, will have to call them tomorrow and ask them nicely to let me have my money lol! Stuff is reserved till tomorrow anyway, so will collect it when I've sorted things out!
Just had leftover cauli cheese for my lunch, dd3 had spag hoops on toast and the others are all out, ds playing rugby, dd2 at a sleepover and dd1 has gone shopping.
No idea about dinner, will prob be the pie or chops that are in the fridge, need to do a meal plan. Also need to wash and iron uniforms at some point. But first I shall be off to dd3's school fayre to do a bit of face painting, I have a somewhat limited repertoire though, basically if you want to be a tiger then you're fine lol! Got the face paints ready, just need to find some brushes now.
Not sure that I've done very much more that is os, dw running with soda crystals, bm on and yoghurt in flask, and that's about it. Was a late start today as I slept for England last night, nodded off about 8pm and next thing I knew it was 8am, guess I was tired!
Anyway, going to have a cuppa and a surf, hugs to all who need them xx
smokey - glad that it was nothing too serious wrong with your fire, sounds like the sort of thing my lot would do- they once put a sticker over the barcode on my parking ticket and when I couldn't get out and called the man all he and they could do was laugh at me!

Mornin :hello:
Its lovely and sunny here today, cold and frosty though, but I am resisting putting the heating on, must think of the pennies
Our "house guest" is still here, he and SIL are sort of talking, but thats all.
I reckon he has used up all the electric we've saved over the last month.
I got up at 2am and 4.30am to visit the bathroom, and the light in the bedroom was on again (thats every night since he turned up on Tuesday) so was his computer, maybe they dont use much electric, but it soon mounts up over a week.
Well today we are being taken out for lunch by DS2 and DIL, a belated birthday meal for me, which is very nice of them. So I am looking forward to that.:D
Breakfast - was the usual porridge a lovely big steaming bowl of it mmmmm
Dinner - tonight will probably be a smokey ham, or tuna sandwich.

Afternoon everyone.I woke realy late today.OH was poorly through the night. He has a bit of a bug I think, headache and feeling sick.I knew something was up as he was a right old grumpy guts yesterday. Will pamper him and dose him up with pills till he feels better.
I've got some washing on as although it's cold it's realy dry and sunny here.
I've also got to put all the shopping away from my big shop. What did'nt need refrigerated is still in the bags on the kitchen floor.
Not got much of anything to do today since OH's not well he won't be wanting much in the way of food.
Taplady, that butternut and sweet potato soup sounds good.Any chance of the recipe please.
I think I may spend today making a christmas cake.I was'nt going to bother this year but I've missed that lovely smell that wafts through the house and makes you feel all seasonal.I usually make a few and puddings but somehow this year never got round to it.
Have a good day(what's left of it)

In haste
To the person I cannot remember who asked about M&S casserole - very pleasant indeed but dear heart and I were famished and it barely did us and little bear, with lots of extra tatoes and veggies and was supposed to be for four.
Sunnyday - If you stick an orange with cloves and hang it on the Christmas tree not only is it v Christmas but also the smell keeps cats off. Also you can make a cat afraid of balloons. You blow one up next to them, when they investigate (curious as a cat) then you pop it. Then repeat, then repeat until you are chasing them round with a balloon to pop. Then put balloons round foot of tree or anywhere else that needs protecting from felonious felines. This does not work on evil cat, who watches fireworks out of window with enjoyment. Also previous cat that possessed us was only scared when we were actually blowing up the balloon. When we popped it she just looked irritated. Fortunately there was a cat toy she was terrified of that we could use to protect the tree. You couldn't make it up.
Visited farmers market, but was underwhelmed. There was a stall selling snowman soup, and I was almost tempted, but it didn't look as good as the pics on here. Spoiled by MSE.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
Hello everyone hope you are keeping warm. Woke up early to sunshine but its very cold and cloudy now. Lit the fire but it took an age, had to scavenge around for bits of wood DH had left in the unfinished extension. Have a piece of half price beef in the oven smelling delish will do with roasties and roast parnsips and carrot. yummy. Have done not much else today, had a mammoth cooking day yesterday so I think I deserve a break today. Must do some meal plans for the rest of the week though. Hugs to all who need them and dont spend to many pennies on the chrimbo shopping:rotfl:Visa £[STRIKE]5063 [/STRIKE]now 0. Loan 1 €[STRIKE]4885[/STRIKE] now 0. Hi everyone
I've been lurking on this board for a very long time and always read the posts, but never post because my life is just so quiet compared to you all, no family here and I'm single so not much to chat about but I always read the thread and love it. But am hugely intrigued - what is snowman soup?
Am so pleased as I made mulled wine for the first time ever last night and absolutely loved it.
Cheers
Casper

Afternoon all,
Not much done OS or otherwise here to-day...we had tuna salad for brunch and beef is on roasting now for dinner around 6. The house is like a mad house with 3 grandchildren and two dogs will be glad when it is bed time for some of them and one dog goes home.
Roads very icy here this morning, seems to be less frosty now so hopefully no frost in the morning when I take DGS2 to school...need to post overseas cards so that they will arrive before Christmas.
Hugs to all in need or want, welcome to newbies, congratulations to those who are celebrating and thank you all for being my friends

Hello Casparthefriendlyghost.
Have been reading often but fallen off the wagon for posting. We have been in Spain since October and sometimes it seems irrelevant to post about our lives here. Anyway we return home next weekend and of course are looking forward to seeing family and friends.
Have been very OS here, the markets make food shopping amazingly cheap and we have become almost vegetarian.
Lots of time in retirement of course and have been loving making lovely sock monkeys for Christmas 2009. I have also been making home made cards from photos of local sights and they have sold well. So all is well
Congratulations to all those celebrating and special gentle thoughts to all those in need of oneTry and do a good deed every day.0
