So their could be some truth then in what this guy said.

(Even so, the Post Office may find its fixed-line phone venture is very hard going, analysts said.

"It will enter a very competitive segment that is red-hot already, and where prices continue to fall," said Mike Cansfield, research director at London-based research consultancy Ovum.

"The HomePhone offer is not compelling, the Post Office has credibility problems with its existing business," he said. "It has entered the wrong market sector." )

It's amazing how offers are promoted on this site and they look fantastic at first sight. It is only when people start signing up that the snags appear, such as more expensive calls and waiting 6 months for the credit, etc. I am still unsure if , when you get the 2 x £25 credits, these can be offset against future line rental costs & calls, or only against that current bill ? In other words, can you use the credit to pay line rental or only against call costs?

    How it works is.

Your first bill is for advance line rental.(No credit on this one).

The second and third quarterly bills include advance line rental and backdated calls and have a credit of £25 each on which will be used up(and more) by your quarterly line rental charges .

PO line rental with caller display is £11.70 a month .BT charge only £11.

It then hits you that you are now paying for all your calls at the PO dearer rates,(and you could be paying more line rental) and
it could take up to 9 months before you got the £50 credit back in total. :D

    hello all,

Id like to know that if you make less than £25 worth of calls say £20 in the first 3 months and you get the £25 credit, does the £5 rollover or do you have to make £25 worth of calls in that quarter to get the full benefit?
    thanks, sproo

Quidco seem to have stopped paying any cashback on this deal, but Line My Pockets are still paying £15.

  • Apologies if these points have already been resolved - I've come late to this thread -

    1) Can you use 1899 etc - saw somewhere that this was only stopped if heavy use made of 1899 etc.
    2) According to Quidco website will still pay £30.

I'm a light user - so seems attractive to me.

    1) They clearly have the right under the T&Cs to stop you using 1899, but I haven't seen any reports of them doing so, as yet. I did my calculations based on the assumption that they might stop me using 1899. There's no way I will use £80 of calls that I could otherwise have routed through 1899, but YMMV. If I manage to use 1899, that is just a bonus. What I might do is save 1899 for the calls I think will last more than a few minutes, which is where most of the 1899 savings come from.

    2) Ah! It definitely disappeared last week - the Post Office page only mentioned £3.50 for foreign exchange transactions. But you are right, it is back now. (And it is finally tracking my £30 cashback - took about 2 weeks to register, so I had assumed that something had gone wrong and I would miss out on the cashback. Not that I have heard a peep from the Post Office, other than an initial acknowledgement e-mail when I signed up.)

When you call them and talk to someone who knows what they are talking about. They have confirmed on a number of occassions they are blocking short code access numbers .You should be able to use 0808 access but this will be dearer.
