  • Does anyone know what happens to any BT line rental you've already paid for if you switch to the Post Office? Will this be refunded or is it "lost"?

For example, my last BT bill dated 20th December covers line rental from 1st December to 28th February. The £31.50 was taken from my bank account on 3rd January. If there was no refund then it would be best to wait till nearer the end of February before switching.... but how near

Providing you are out of contract with BT,they will refund your overpayment.

Just tried to sgin up to this service online but the website doesn't work so tried by phone.

Agent told me the 50 quid account credit would only to used against the cost of calls made - ie if you made less calls than this it would'nt reduce the line rental payable. This contradicts what has been posted on the thread on this topic on this board. Does anyone know for sure?
    I think....

You get £25 off second quarterly bill, and £25 off your third one irrespective of how many calls you might have made!!!

Why start yet another thread on this service whats wrong with this one :D

  • The terms and conditions state that you have to stay with them until the first and then 2nd QUARTERLY bills at 3+ months and 6+ months so you are comitted to them for that long to reap the benefits. I just signed up on the web site and had no problem although they don't allow you to pay monthly direct debits uless its a minimum of £20 (which is more than I use) which is a pain as I budget monthly.
  • This is not a cheap deal really.

You receive the credit after 2nd & 3rd quarterly bills. However, they don't do the "5.5p for an hour call eve & wkend" like BT so you will be paying 60p for an hour's chat. And, if you use phone a lot (like me) you will be paying way over the odds by the time you receive your 2nd credit.

Plus, if you are on BT's option 1 & then sign up to Just Dial's lite package (free) you get eve & wkend calls for free anyway.

wizard, you can ask for a budget card and can than pay monthly at your local post office instead. For Vickit.. well yeah you have a point but you can a) sign up to 18866, 1899 and make the calls like those long calls through them. (they still work on POL at least for now.) Wonder if 0800 can be block or not? Also you be surprise how often those short calls like "hi John I will be over in a minute." or "Mum, just arrive back home." With BT that cost 5.5p flat, whilst on POL it is charge per second. 3 in 4 calls are like that on average remember reading. POL deal is not the cheapest for all call patterns but for some it will be esp with the £50 - £80 cashback.

For other people. This is how the deal work (not including the extra £30 cashback or recommend friend/family member.)

When you sign up if you quote a FAD code the office that FAD code belong to get credit for a sale. If no FAD code is quoted than nearest office to your post code are credited. So if you want to support your local office ask them for their FAD to sign up for homephone and than quote it on web/telephone. This help the office meet its sale target and keep it open. Than the actual deal itself. On your first qtr bill with call on it (so make sure you make at least one chargeable call within the first 3 months) you will get £25 credit on the account. So use round up figures your first 3 months will be £61 - £25 = £36. Then on the 6th month (second qtr) you get other £30 bill - £25 = £5. If you than decide to cancel you will than get £30 back as well which you paid in advance in the first qtr. So it makes the line rental £11 for the 6 months (including the £1 worth of call to get the £50 credit) + £30 extra now. Which make your line rental -£3.17 a month. So you got £13.17 in other words to use on calls a month before it even cost the same as BT landline. So actualy going back to Vict, how often do you call? You might find that it still will work out cheaper.

NB: One last thing if sign up to POL homephone there is other benefit, you get discount on POL car/home insurance as well, flowers, postshop, etc. etc.
  • Their seems to be a lot of confusion about when you get the £50 credit and the d/d payments ,let me attempt to clear it up.

The T&C for the £50 offer are here http://www.postoffice.co.uk/portal/po/content1?catId=19300217&mediaId=22900487

"Sec 4. £25 will be credited to the second bill (+3 mnths after go live) and the third bill (+6 mnths after go live) "

    If you are paying quarterly,
First bill, will be for advance line rental only. (No credit on this one)
Second bill, advance line rental and calls made in previous period.(£25 credit)
Third Bill ,advance line rental ,and previous quarters calls.(£25 credit)

If you pay monthly they will take £20 a month for the first 3 months until they can determine your call spending pattern, and then adjust it.The £25 credits will still kick in quarterly eg + 3months and + 6 months after you go live.

So you have to stay with them + 6 months to get the £50 before you can move.

If you have free caller display with BT and you still want it they charge £1.50p a month so any savings will be reduced by at least £9.

You cant CPS your calls to another supplier eg Primus Saver/JDS to take advantage of Free E&W Calls and Cheap mobile Calls(Primus Penny Mobile/JDS capped mobile rates).

You can use 1899 etc at the moment but they can bar you.

You cant use the 1280 overide facility for free to get cheaper calls through BT eg ngn ones.
    PF.
  • Just a thought if you read this MSE Martin. This part of your of your Original Posting needs amending.

"For those people willing to shift around and play with their phone bills this is also very useable. The £50 credit is paid on the 2nd and 3rd bills, thus you need to have the phone for three months in order to get the £50 call credit. After that you can always cancel it and switch to a normal cheaper service"

As you have to wait 6 months + to get the full £50 quid.
    See item 4 in T&C http://www.postoffice.co.uk/portal/po/content1?catId=19300217&mediaId=22900487

Does anyone know whether for the purposes of my broadband connection whether this will still count as a BT line? My supplier's terms and conditions state they can only supply people with a BT line and my contract will terminate if my BT line ceases.
