Warning -Check your loyalty points on receipts

After a purchase at Tesco yesterday- Dec 5th the receipt showed 404 points. A receipt from this morning says I have 2281 points and strangely the clubcard number is not mine!!! A receipt from tonight shows the correct clubcard number and 423 points. I have left the matter with the manager after voicing my suspicions and will await their findings. Anyone had this experience?

Are you sure you didn't pick up the wrong receipt? Not that difficult, expecially at the self service tills.

Ive noticed the cashiers tend to ignore issuing clubpoints for the re-usable "green bags" you take in store, i constantly have to say "and the club points please", that's when they "tut" and "sigh" because in the rush to get you out, they omitted to include it on the bill, and have to go through the process from scratch. I might add not just "sometimes", but EVERY TIME I go into the Store I have to point this out to them.

Thanks dzug but I'm absolutely certain it was mine ( from the items bought)and it wasn't a self service till. The store are checking who owns the membership number but I doubt I'll never find what happened. They are understandably very defensive. One manager said a card may have been left on the belt and accidently scanned. I was not quick thinking enough to suggest that the card would then be in the lost property drawer.

Hmm, I wouldn't mind betting the checkout operator swiped her/his own card and got your points!

The card does not begin with 634002 but a cashier could swipe a friend or relatives card. Also my points from the transaction have not registered.
Also the fact the cashier looked closely enough at my receipt to be able to say something like "you're the 1000th customer" -it's in tiny print at the bottom (manager says it was the 1000th cash back transaction) How many cashiers look at numbers on receipts as they are handed over?I'm afraid i have a very suspicious mind!

Ironic, back in the days you got a hamper or prize for being the 1000th customer, people would battle to ensure it was them. Has it really got to the point customers in the que will turn to the one behind them and say "no its ok, after you"

thks d.edna- yes it did register another transaction. It sounds like clubcard surfing is common. Is it, in your experience? I would hope they would be sacked. It's theft or fraud. It may just be points but points become money. I told manager that if cashier had done it , it is a police matter.... but I was annoyed at the time.
    thks again

I too have to ask for this almost every time I shop. I've also had to raise this with a manager who informed me that "green clubcard points were at the discretion of the cashier" and were "designed to encourage customers who were new to the scheme not as a reward for what should be everyday behaviour". Needless to say that response merited a letter being fired off to Customer Services - I'm still waiting for a response.

I have to say, at the risk of being cynical, the points mystery sounds like someone else scanning their card. In most Las Vegas casinos you can join a players club where you insert your card at the slot machine while you play and it accumulates points. It's a well known ruse there to leave your card in the slot "by mistake" while someone else plays and return for it later once it's amassed some points.
